Sometimes I do words real good.

Long time listener, first time poster. Been reading this thread for a few days, and finally decided to register. For the longest time I felt truly alone with my Yellowcard fandom. Nice to see there are other people who feel as strongly about their music as I do. I truly believe it helped form me into the person I am today.

Since it seems to be a heated topic, I'll say that I too have a VIP package preordered - but I will likely be listening to a leak if/when there is one. My order hasn't shipped yet (to my knowledge, anyway) and I'll be at work, a wedding, and work again this weekend which would put my listening off until Monday - and I just can't do that.

    Anyway, hi.

Just curious if anyone has any interesting stories on how they first got into/discovered Yellowcard. I first heard "Way Away" on a PS2 game (SSX 3) back in 2003 when I was ten years old and have been hooked ever since. I'm twenty three now, and it's crazy to think that this band has carried me from the fifth grade, through high school, all of college, helped me cope with many downs, and been my "go-to" music to celebrate many highs. Crazy that it's all ending here and now in a day or so (except the final tour, of course.) Really mixed feelings about it all.

  6. Yellowcard was a band that I never went out of my way to go and see, but they're one of the bands I've seen the most. When I was constantly going to shows back in high school and stuff, it seemed like Yellowcard was opening every big show I'd go to. So they've always kind of followed me around. I first heard of them from an old friend of mine. She loved them. One year, I went to Warped Tour and they were doing a meet and greet at this random tent so I got them to sign a compilation CD they were giving out for free. It was back when Ben was still in the band and everything. I still have it in a box under my bed. But yeah, this band's always been around. They're great.

Holy shit, deja vu my man. My story is literally the exact same as yours, except for the fact that I'm one year younger at 22. Wow! Thank god for SSX3...

I saw them on the Lift a Sail tour, and I'm seeing them in Boston this November. Got the Meet and Greet VIP package - even though I'm sure that's a very brief "here's your autograph, here's your photo with the band, now you gotta leave" type of thing I'm still really excited.

That is really cool. I wouldn't be surprised if this story is shared with a lot of people around our age. Every band hits at a certain time to "capture" a generation during their youth and grow with them, we just happened to luck out with Yellowcard being one of them for us.

First heard "Fighting" on Madden 08 and fell in love with it. About a year later, when I needed to present a song for a music class, I decided on "Fighting" and I bought Paper Walls, which became my favorite album ever (the other songs I was considering were "Underclass Hero" - Sum 41, which I also heard first on Madden 08 and "The Walking Wounded" - Bayside, which was on NHL 08. It was the first time I had heard of any of these bands.)

  10. The only bands I found out about through video games were Goldfinger and Bodyjar haha. Technically Mest too but that was for some online Mountain Dew flash game

It is absolutely maddening to me knowing that this album is out in the wild, and I still haven't heard it. And beyond me just being somewhat annoyed about it - it's actually sort of plain incredible that it hasn't hit the net yet.

A small image from a much larger CD shelf that runs 3 sections wide and 8 down. From left to right top to bottom is the order that I bought the CD's in. Starting with Space Jam soundtrack, No Doubt - Tragic Kingdom, and Third Eye Blind's debut around 1996. Slide your eyes through some hot garbage CDs as well as some true gems, you'll get to the green arrow which is Ocean Avenue. I remember after hearing Ocean Avenue, I heard "Way Away" from the SSX 3 soundtrack(which that game is great btw). That sealed the deal for me and bought the album sometime after that. Ocean Avenue was a true gen for my senior year of high school.

Proud of the people that haven't leaked it yet. Very cool.

Sadly as more people get it the chance of it leaking increases exponentially.

As much as I'd like to hear the album instead of waiting until Monday when I'll be able to listen - it is pretty incredible that people have been this cool about keeping it under wraps.

I do have a digital copy that unlocks Friday, but I don't think I'll have a chance to sit down and listen to it uninterrupted until next week - and that's the way I want to experience this album for the first time.

Ocean Avenue was one of the first albums I listened to that wasn't top 40 or something my parents would play on the radio. An old high school friend randomly burned me a copy one night and I played the shit out of that album in my first car. Ocean Avenue, blink's Untitled, and Matchbook Romance's Stories and Alibis were the three albums that really broadened my horizons as a 16 year old

I was trying to remember when I first heard Yellowcard. A lot of memories associated w/ this band, but sad to say, some of them are negative -- not due to the band or the music, but due to one of my best friends' terrible exes, who was a huge fan. She was, is, and might actually be Satan reincarnate. But I digress...

"Way Away" was the first song of their I'd heard, probably on MTV2 of all places. The hype for YC back in 2003-2004 was nuts. Just like TBS and FOB, if you didn't listen to YC, it made you feel like you truly were an outsider. Ocean Avenue was practically mandatory, just like Smash, Dookie and Tragic Kingdom were in the 90's (sadly, you can typically find plenty of copies at any used CD store :tear:)

I latched onto Ocean Avenue like everyone else, saw them live twice before Lights & Sounds was released, and then I fell off the bandwagon for a bit. I came back for Paper Walls, fell in love w/ that album hard, and while WYTTSY didn't quite hold my attention, Southern Air hooked me right back in. Once I was able to purge that friend's ex out of my Yellowcard memories, I began to understand why this band was important, and how impactful their songs were. I am so glad I get to see them one last time in a month. If singing my goddamn throat sore is a good way to say thank you, welp... expect plenty of gratitude from yours truly!

I have a lot of the same hot garbage CDs as you and I had them in chronological order for awhile too so it looked a lot like this.

My story with this band will be featured tomorrow in a piece I wrote about them. I'll share here once it's live.
