Apparently this bombed. I was going to wait for this to expand but I guess I will make the drive next weekend.

I'd say that's to this film's benefit, though, not its detriment.

I really do think that this is one of my favorites of the year.

The one shot I keep going back to in my head is when the parents are divorcing and Sammy looks in the mirror and sees himself filming the divorce argument with his sisters. It's the ultimate culmination of Judd Hirsch's scene and the "you love this more than you love your family". There's a part of me that thinks the film is even stronger when you take that aspect and think about it in other scenes, and how it makes some of the cheesiest elements (like the two bullies, Chad and Lance, the most stereotypical HS bully names) more effective.

Yeah, I guess AMC knew this would fail. The three around me are bringing back Top Gun: Maverick in lieu of The Fabelmans. I'm guessing it will never hit a lot of AMCs.

Not expanding here and it will be even further by Friday. Other than Ready Player One, I hadn't missed Spielberg in a theater for a long time.

Gonna try and catch this at 10PM tonight. Almost guaranteed I’ll be the only one in the theater, which will be nice.

This was good but I was hoping to like it more. Also been in a weird head space the last few weeks so who knows.

I was the only one in the audience and presumably the entire theater by the end, because they turned the lights on in the auditorium during the last scene and someone came in to take out the trash, lol.

Liked this a lot more than I was expecting to. I’m hit or miss on Spielberg but this was definitely a hit for me.

hope we get a Michelle Williams/Seth Rogen movie every ten years or so like clockwork, and I was surprised that this is apparently the first time Dano and Rogen have worked together there was a time where one of them was in every movie

there were definitely times especially towards the end where it was little too on the nose but for the most part great film

Yeah take this waltz is great. Seth didn’t have much to do in this but was good.

I liked this but not as much as I had hoped to. Michelle William's performance didn't click with me and that probably has a lot to do with it.

Oh, but Lynch as John Ford at the end was perfect though.

Watching the most commercially successful director in the world recreate his guerilla amateur films decades later was really special. It's a really great portrayal of the artifice involved in filmmaking, at least before everything became computerized. It was also fascinating to think about Spielberg's admission about film as propaganda. He has never been a prolific documentary filmmaker like some of his peers, but he is well aware of his own impact. Jaws was so influential that the book's author felt it endangered sharks. Jurassic Park's dinosaurs are so influential that it is hard to really imagine them with feathers now that we have more information. Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan are harrowing to the point where they feel like stand-ins for being there.

The family dynamic is less interesting. It is really stacking the deck when the husband is chinless and barely speaks above a whisper while the interloper is loud, hairy, and overtly masculine. I just wanted to go back to seeing Sammy shoot movies.

There are not enough ways to capitalize letters that could describe just how much I loved this. So beautiful, and such a great movie about watching your parents become human. I was very high on WSS, but this might be my favorite 21st century Spielberg.

Watched this last night. While it took me a bit to get into what Michelle Williams was doing, oh boy, once the movie hit, I was absolutely in love with it.

    Best Seth Rogen performance ever?
