Arceus was the most boring pokemon game I've ever played aside from Pokemon Snap

Yeah I wasn’t a fan of Arceus. It felt like I was playing a tech demo

It's awesome that you enjoyed Brilliant Diamond, you definitely got more out of it than I did - I think the annoyance with those games is that we know what GF are capable of with their remakes, and seeing such a bare-bones update that offers little to no changes from the originals, and at full price to boot, felt like a slap in the face. It's far more reskin than remake. Diamond and Pearl HD would've been more accurate names imo. I'd recommend probably playing ORAS to get a better idea of what I mean, I think those were absolutely baller. HGSS too but I think that's just cus Johto is my favourite region of all of them.

I think the problem is that too many people think that the GameFreak of 2022 is the GameFreak of years ago when they clearly aren’t. Either that, or it is a resource problem, which is possible, because people want 3D games from a franchise that exists to be cost effective. Whatever the reason, Pokemon games are a shadow of their former selves, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.

Does it bring much new to the first game? I loved the first one, but it was also I think my first game of lockdown in April 2020 so I don't know how much of it was just the comfort of switching off from *all of that*. Def curious about picking this one up but not until its on sale.

100% agree. I'm pretty far into the game and it just hasn't grabbed me the way the first did. The first game felt a lot more creative in terms of the battles throughout the world as well as boss battles. I also felt progression in the first game was way more balanced.

They changed the movement system so its no longer based on a grid. So you have a lot more movement and placement freedom, but to be honest, I'm not a huge fan of it. It encourages playing character by character rather than planning a bit further ahead, which is something I really liked. They've also added "Sparks" and items which are just more power ups per turn that you basically have to use further into the game because the difficulty level spikes. Its still a good game, but I'd wait on a sale.

They’re all totally their own thing, like Final Fantasy, so pick whichever one. The latest one, Three Hopes, has the same characters as Three Houses though, but the gameplay is totally different.

Three Hopes is not a real FE game. I don’t say that to shit on it. It just isn’t, it’s a Musou spin-off. If you have access to a 3DS, I would recommend Fire Emblem Fates (probably Birthright). It’s the closest thing to Three Houses. Awakening is great too, but less close to Three Houses. None of them are as Persona-like as Three Houses though. A new one is coming out in February, so that’s an option too.

I fell in love with this franchise through the two GBA games but that's a bit of a leap backwards. I would agree the 3DS titles are probably the next best option!

yeah I get it, I have omega ruby but am only three gyms in and I played heart gold way back when it came out so I get the disappointment but it being my first Pokémon game in forever brilliant diamond was just enough to sink my teeth back into the franchise

For what it's worth, Game Freak did not develop the Diamond and Pearl remakes. They outsourced to ILCA and just supervised it.

I agree that I would have like some new stuff like they did with ORAS but I understand why they let someone else to do it to focus on Arceus and Scarlet/Violet.
