Outside of like 5 minutes around the release of LOSE, dude has been the most underrated person in indie rock for pretty much his whole career. Very excited for a new record.

 

I’m pretty positive Pretty Years is the best thing they ever put out and one of the most underrated indie rock albums ever. “Wish” is an all time “im going 20 over the speed limit and don’t realize it” song.

 

I don't think Pretty Years is their best but I do love it and agree that it's underrated. Love how fuzzy and dirty sounding it is. "4th of July, Philadelphia (SANDY) " is one of their best. "Have a Heart" is ridiculous too

I honestly might like the Empty Country record best. For actual Cymbals, I think LOSE is probably the objective best, but Lenses has my favorite songs. All 5 between the two projects are super good.

the Marian sequel (Pearl) is easily the best, but I like every song thus far. album is shaping up to be a monster

Can anyone describe how the new songs sound like?

 

it's a pretty diverse set! first two songs he dropped are 10 and 7 minutes long respectively, really dark and noisy, like some Cymbals era stuff almost. third song and the one that just came out are Ultrasound level bangers, although none of them have drums yet. there's a weird like Beatles-y piano song

 

yeah, was just gonna say I listened tonight and it's all sounding like a very natural progression. still very organic and raw, but also a little more psychedelic, almost lenses alien-ish. the 10-minute song and piano song are both amazing. really great stuff

 

ugh yes i was so hoping for one more ultrasound type song

 

This is still my favorite album of the decade so far
