  2. I was gutted when they had to cancel the US tour - they were playing a small venue here in Indianapolis. It was gonna be bonkers

i can agree with some elements of this for sure.

my feeling listening through this album is that it's more committed to its aesthetic than the strength of its underlying parts. that's the big difference between this and even the last the album for me.

i'm still gonna listen more and let it sit with me. even the last few days have softened my opinion on some of the tracks.

This goes hard as hell live - WOW.

Now I am even more sad they had to cancel the US tour.

This is pretty crazy. A really good insight to just how toxic the internet can be because someone doesn’t like the music anymore.

Hoping I can come around to this record just based on how these guys have presented themselves the last few weeks

Yeah, this really bums me out. Firstly, I never understood why fans feel the need to describe their disappointment of an album to the artist, especially when so many others are expressing similar views. But then why drag Tom into this, that's just ridiculously disrespectful to me on so many levels.

Oh yeah I never thought I'd say this but I'd even be more into this show than the last one I caught personally. This setlist contains most of my faves from their last three!

Honestly it's sad to hear him struggle with those older songs, which makes me wish they'd replace them with stuff that doesn't rely on that singing style instead (Castles In The Air for example). If he can't perform them like he used to, it makes me wonder for how much longer these songs are going to be played live.

Wish and hope they would add Be Very Afraid and Living is Killing Us to the new set. It would rule.

The Here and Now is so god damn underrated! Probably wont return to this new album in a while though.

    Hollow Crown
    Lost Forever // Lost Together
All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us
    The Here and Now
    Holy Hell
    Daybreaker
For Those That Wish To Exist
The Classic Symptoms of a Broken Spirit
    Ruin
    Nightmare

All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us
    Nightmare

Didn't know where to put the new one because it's so soon but there's not much I love in All Our Gods and I never listen to Nightmare outside of that one rerecorded song with Sam so those two are definitely last for me.

  14. How the hell do they already have 10 albums, jesus. I remember buying Hollow Crown back when it came out and it feels so wild to believe that, in their own timeline, it was 7 releases ago.

  15. I had no idea Hollow Crown was so beloved, I cannot get into that album at all. Daybreaker is definitely my favorite, with Holy Hell a close follow-up. The Here and Now does not get enough love. Not sure where I'd rank the rest.

'Hollow Crown' is great, and I'm gutted the likes of 'Early Grave', 'Follow The Water' and 'Dethroned' don't enter the set list anymore.

    2012 Daybreaker
    2014 Lost Forever
    2016 Gods
    2018 Hell
    2021 Exist
    2022 spirit

I've been a fan since the moment I heard Early Grave. Easily a top 5 metalcore song of all time for me.

It’s weird, I had never even heard of this band until FTTWTE came out. Really enjoy like 95% of that record if not all of it. Had no idea at the time that it was their 9th album, holy shit, it struck me as like their 3rd or 4th and I mean that as a compliment. Like, FTTWTE does not sound like a band on album #9.

However, I never got the urge to check out their discography or even look at their Wikipedia page which is unusual when I really like an album. This new album hasn’t made a big impact on me after 2-3 listens but will revisit again and think I’m gonna spend next week checking out the rest of their catalog and going in chronological order.

I'm turning this around in my mind, and I'm guessing you're coming from the perspective that bands eventually produce diminishing returns the longer they go on?

Certainly not always for every artist but yeah. But maybe it’s more so that FTTWTE has, idk, a lot of energy to it? It just sounds like a fresh / young band to me for some reason which makes it super impressive to me it’s album #9

As a heads up considering you're going to be diving into the older stuff for the first time, their first album 'Nightmare' doesn't have Sam as their vocalist, and the follow-up 'Ruin' I believe was recorded just a few days after he joined. Both tech metal style albums, and the one with Sam he sounds VERY different to how he does on all of the other records. Still learning how to use his voice I think.

If you liked anything from the last two records then 'Daybreaker' and 'The Here And Now' are the two most similar, and 'Hollow Crown' is more in the realms of their 'LF//LT', 'AOGHAU' and 'Holy Hell' era.

  23. Don't forget to check this out if you're going in chronological order:

Broken Clocks is a banger that wasn't rerecorded for Hollow Crown. They've also got some bsides that aren't all on streaming services and one or two of them (The Shadow Of Doubt) are among my favorite Architects songs ever.

Just recently discovered this band, def enjoying the last record as well as the new one.

I was never a fan of metalcore at all but I really appreciate this pivot they seemed to make in their sound. Any other acts out there with a similar sound that anyone here would recommend?

If you’re really enjoying this new Architects one then I reckon you’d also love the latest Bad Omens record and latest Vukovi record too.
