V/H/S/99 is a good time. Not sure if I like it more or less than 94 yet. First segment was my favorite.

I fully expected Mike to love it since he doesn't care about the franchise or really like slashers, anyways.
Figured it was 50/50 on Jay but I knew they'd eat up the "THEY TRIED SOMETHING DIFFERENT!" angle.

Nah, I think they are currently in production. My guess is that it got greenlit after X performed well considering that Pearl was already done.

Halloweenies podcast really liked Ends too and they mostly hated the other two. Paul Rust says it's his favorite of the three. I think like I said before, if you can divorce it from the trilogy and only judge it as a film in and of itself, it might actually be good. I don't know if I can do that though.

I don’t think I liked Nope quite as much as I wanted to, but it was still cool.

Think I’m gonna do The Munsters or My Best Friend’s Exorcism next

VHS99 was a lot of fun. I’d still place it below 94 though.

If we're just talking horror movies Nope is probably my favorite of the year, maybe second favorite movie overall. Barbarian in a close second, I'll have to make a list for this thread at year end.

This year has been pretty insane for horror honestly.

  20. Finished, Kingdom is fantastic. Perfect blend of action horror and political drama. Genuinely moving, made me tear up a few times. Haven't seen the special yet. The twelve episodes over two seasons tells a pretty complete story on its own but it leaves room for more to be explored, I wouldn't mind a third season.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

wasn't super enthralled by V/H/S/99 unfortunately. a real mixed bag, more funny than scary and the wraparound stuuuuunk (they usually do but this one was just a worse Amateur Night lol)

last segment was genuinely great tho, went out on top

Thinking more on it, I think that Suicide Bid and To Hell and Back (give that directing team all the stuff cause with this and Deadstream, they are a solid 2/2) were my favorites from VHS99. Ozzy's Dungeon was some pretty rad nostalgia. I'm kinda over the segments dealing with groups of obnoxious or horny teens and a camera though - I feel like it's been done so much in this series.

the spiders in Suicide Bid got me good, phenomenally mean-spirited moment that had me squirming. other than that it was super predictable imo, I laughed when the zombie showed up looking like a prop from an 80s music video
still better than it's surrounding segments but yeah, To Hell and Back was the real takeaway here. guess I gotta watch Deadstream now, didn't know it was the same creative team
