    The intrusive whisper fascinates me

    That’s what I’m predicting

That Pantera bullshit will 100% be on all the Wimmer festivals and nowhere near Riot. If for no other reason than Wimmer offering up far more money.

That would be like saying the Jawbreaker reunion was going to go to Wimmer instead of Riot. Even if Wimmer wanted them, they weren't dropping the necessary 7 figures to make it happen. (Not saying that happened, but hypothetically to draw a parallel to the Pantera thing.)

pantera fit in more at dwp shit than jawbreaker would anyways, it's a no brainer.

That's my point. Even if Riot wanted to book them, Wimmer would win out in a bidding war just because it wouldn't be worth it for Riot in terms of draw to pay $$$ to book them. But it would be well worth it for Wimmer to drop whatever on it.

The way of thinking for Reddit was that Pantera said they will only play festivals and Riot was the most fittable for them in Chicago (unless Chicago Open Air returns)

Not sure if DWP has any festival in the midwest or if there is any other metal festival close by to count as their midwest festival.

But again, that was just what someone speculated on r/Lollapalooza

Honestly, I could see Riot just flat-out saying "Nah, not our demo" to them.

But thinking about it? If they're the only festival in the area that makes sense and they really want to play the midwest? Riot could do something with that. And probably for a bit cheaper than they might pay a usual headliner for those stages.

Pantera with (insert direct support here), GWAR, Municipal Waste, and a random buzzed about hardcore band on Radical or Rise would work well.

Louder than Life in Louisville too. Which had a handful of overlaps with Riot this year

I think Lamb Of God could be a nice addition to Riot one day, and they could be direct support for Pantera

Those festivals almost always have overlap with Riot, but it's generally the 1-2 legacy punk/Warped Tour-type bands they book each day.

Speaking of bookings that would never happen someone on Reddit suggested Taylor swift for riot fest 2023

im neither hear nor there on pantera in general and by all accounts phil sucks as a person, but i dont begrudge the concept of 2 remaining members making money off the band they put so many years into, as well as the blood sweat and tears into creating. its not their fault the 2 more beloved members of the band died, and no reason they should be punished for it (by not being able to continue making money from it). i could see them on a riot poster 2nd line, but not particularly rooting for it.

From my understanding, Dimebag & Vinny's family signed off on them touring as Pantera (Phil was playing shows where he was just playing Pantera under his own name so I knew this was inevitable) and I would assume are getting some of the royalties from the tour.

I think they are a fringe booking for Riot that I would lean towards not playing, so I don't get what all the fuss is about.

Don't recreate the scene, or reinvent the meanings Supporter

As much as I liked Pantera growing up, their association with confederate stuff and the Paul brothers passing, I am not personally interested in a reunion, but I think it is their right to do so.

Weren't you all in on Phil Anselmo and the Sloppy Jalopy Butt Rock Parade or whatever that solo project thing was called playing last year? But now a reunion isn't a good fit? X-(

Paul was Vinnie's middle name, their last name was Abbott

Phil's band would have been a mid-tier act like Marky Ramone, Pantera is a top 2 or 3 billing and I just figure Riot has other bands in mind that high they want to book.

also, Pantera aren't just playing festivals.. they just announced a co-headline arena show with Judas Priest at the end of the year in Brazil

They arent headliners on any festivals they have announced so far, so probs they would be 2nd line as KindaFatMike said.

Im still surprised they started their reunion tour in Latinamerica tho. Their firsr show back is in Mexico but not really excited about it.

Apologies, I meant billed top 2 or 3 on the day they would play.. not one of the headliners

looking at the WWWY schedule, i know they have 2 sets of stages are side by side and a 5th off to the side, but are they also all rotating stages?? without them, i dont see how they accomplish alllll of those tight 15 minute turnovers on the same stage. bands are gonna be starting late, sound bad, or they have assembled the best changeover teams of all time, haha

Punk Rock Bowling did 15 minute turnovers.. I think bands would just tune in the back during the previous band's set

at one point on checkers stage going from manchester orc -> alk 3 -> thursday its only 10 mins between each. haha the more i look at it the more odd it is.
but having said that, the conflicts arent as bad as i thought, definitely still a few, but not as overwhelming.

    It's chaos. Be kind. Prestigious

Have we learned anything more about the rotating stages/if that's still a thing?

I'm pretty sure, at some point during the weekend, one of the bands is going to throw a "rock star" hissyfit on-stage about soundcheck eating into their set time.

EDIT: My money's on it being Soupy from the Wonder Years or Andy from Manchester Orchestra because that shit would be hilarious and super out of character.
