    Cursed by my ancestry

That's what seems most likely to me. But hopefully the run time is similar to TDAG.

Maybe they will just release 100's of guitar riffs, 1000's of recorded words, and many other clips where we can create our own BN album.

Something huge is what I'd like. Let the Modest Mouse influence out...let yourselves sprawl a little...
But the 10-14 songs route is probably what we get which is fine

I'd love for it to be another epic... But I am kind of confident we can expect a more concise 10 songs, 30-35 minute album. But I don't know. That's just what I've expected since all of the new album stuff started.

You're expecting their last album to be their shortest by what amounts to like 2 of their songs? 40-60 minutes seems p reasonable ballpark figure considering the rest of their discog

Basing anything Brand New does on the rest of their discography is kind difficult honestly. Haha I kind of expect it's length and general form to be comparable to Kevin Devine's Bulldozer and what he's said about Instigator. (As in, 2 and a half to 4 minute songs with 10 total tracks)

I haven't listened to Thrice beyond those first two like weirdly Californiaesque punk/hardcore albums but that seems kind of silly to say since they haven't attempted it, but like their whole discography is just stylistic range and they have pretty consistently improved as musicians through out the years, especially in terms of live playing and new arrangements and such. Maybe you're right, but it seems like things as simple as time could have evened that out
ooh, true, you got me there. That's fair but in general they're pretty different songwriters so I'm gonna keep holding out for the 40 min, since that minimum run time is the only consistent part of their discog

Yeah. I guess I remember Kevin mentioning he was really proud of how Instigator is a concise (my favorite word tonight I guess. Haha) 30ish minute record. I think after 7 years that seems like a pretty logical step for Brand New and think they might enjoy that. But I don't know for sure still. We'll see if/when LP5 comes out.

Ready to be lynch-mobbed here but I really don't rate Thrice. And that's coming from someone who owns the Alchemy Index, the Live at The House Of Blues cd/DVD and Beggars.
I just cannot get into them. The Alchemy Index (Water and Earth anyhow - Fire and Air just don't do it for me at all, and even Earth I'm not huge on) is alright - I appreciate the concept and there's a few good tracks. So many people put them on a pedestal though, yet whenever I put them on I tend to get bored. Sonically, ignoring Water, (which in itself is a bit samey to me) Thrice, have this particular *sound* that just doesn't hook me. I get how people will be like WUT THE ALCHEMY INDEX THO, and yes, the songs on each one are indeed very different to the next element, but as a self-contained EP, they're all pretty samey to me. It's difficult to enjoy them as a band when I don't think much of the vocals though, I will admit that dictates a lot of my opinion. I've seen the live DVD multiple times - I'm aware they are all very talented at their instruments.
In terms of fan service and marketing, releasing a damn LP and letting fans know what's going on? Sure, they excel there. But I honestly just get so sleepy listening to them, and that's not because of how pretty Night Diving sounds. My mate adores them, but they kind of just bore me.
Prepared to take a lot of flak for those opinions and 'but have you listened to' (I have, before you start)/ 'you're crazy', but hey - we're all blessed with different tastes.
My favourite song of theirs is probably A Song For Milly Michaelson, which I do actually love. But *shrugs*, sorry guys and girls...I just don't see it, or hear it rather.

    This is truth.

The first time I saw Brand New, back in '09, they coheadlined with Thrice. I wasn't a huge fan of Thrice going in, but I left in awe. Thrice made Brand New sound like a garage band, if I'm being honest.

Just curious to know have you listened to their newest album? Production is excellent on it def worth a shot if you haven't already. Also Dustin's solo album from last year was very good as well as his live covers album. I appreciated new Thrice even more after digging/getting into his solo stuff a lot.
