i keep reading that the new hellraiser has been dekinkified, and that's incredibly disappointing if true!!!!

what is hellraiser (at least the first two movies) if it's not about some horny perverts going too far

  3. Lol. This just made me think of the Biff Wiff (santa actor) sketch from I Think You Should Leave. Looks okay.

  4. The first four Halloweens plus 2018 are all you really need, but the rest make for a mostly fun journey. Going on IG Live to rank them with a friend tomorrow evening!

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

you can definitely see the echoes of Black Christmas in Halloween - the POV shot, the phone call where Laurie just hears heavy breathing - but the atmospheres of those films are just so different it's insane. one of the finest examples of making something totally new from the best parts of your influences

also I'm halfway through Halloween II now. I used to be indifferent to this one, but it's kinda grown on me. it's at a weird crossroads between another patient, chilly film like Carpenter's and these super OTT kills that really interrupt the atmosphere. and there's some downright silly shit, like the sister reveal and Fake Michael getting rammed into an exploding ambulance lmao

but there's also a lot of subtle, strange details I love a lot. like the doctor being drunk and the kid with the razorblade in his mouth, that have nothing to do with the plot but really give it some character. the hospital going from fully populated and functional to basically abandoned in the span of 5 minutes weirdly adds to that surreal vibe

i'm def deranged but i love halloween 5, there is no movie like it, totally psychically-damaged disaster area that also contains a barn full of kittens. it is honestly very similar to the exorcist ii, another personal favorite. the only parts of the halloween franchise i don't like are the first ten minutes of resurrection (the rest of the movie is a hilarious blast) and 2018, sorry, every time i watch the latter the restless editing kicks me right out of it, even though i do think the sustained michael-stalking-through-the-houses-in-the-neighborhood scene is good

the worst horror franchise is objectively hellraiser, but almost every other one is super entertaining to get through despite their relative ups and downs. i feel like i watch every friday the 13th movie every year and each time i come out with a different impression/ranking of them

100% agree! The first four and ‘18 are essential, and the rest (even the bad ones) are at least fun. Halloween is my second favorite franchise, of all genres, with Scream being the first.

Halloween 1, 2 and 4 are good. I’ve still never seen Halloween 3. The rest of the Halloween films, except 2018, are just not for me. Hopefully Ends is good.

I hope Ends is at least pointless fun like Kills was. I see why people hated Kills, but I enjoyed most of the silliness and the gore/kills were a lot of fun. I don’t have high expectations, but I am excited to see what direction they take with Ends. Halloween is one franchise I don’t think I can ever get tired of.

I don't care for the new Halloween ones idk. I wish they stood up more on their own. Like the last one just felt like the middle chapter. Which like I know it is lol, but I also feel like even in a trilogy they should be able to stand on their own as well

5 also contains an unhinged Sam Loomis that is almost scarier than Michael himself

Is 5 the one where they have clown shoe sound effects while the cops were walking?

  15. I've said it before, but I think I like Halloween 2 almost as much as the original. Something about it being a direct continuation, but being so tonally different...it's like two sides of a coin. Halloween is Halloween, but the approach to and kills in 2 are so admirable.

Puppet Master would give Hellraiser a run for its money lol

    Yes lol

i’ve seen most of the puppet master movies, it is not worse than hellraiser as a franchise

Agreed, @Aaron Mook. Halloween II gets a lot of flak, but Laurie's wig aside, it's a right up there with the original. Whenever I watch the OG I have to follow it up immediately with II.

I thought I was in the mood for an It double feature rewatch but as soon as the first movie drops the f slur fifteen minutes in I remember everything I hated about the second and I just stopped. Hearing that hits different now that I'm trans. These have some great performances from the kids and the adults, I just wish someone else was at the helm

I WANT to continue watching the rest of the Hellraiser movies but I have not seen Bloodline ever streaming anywhere so I have been stuck at 1-3 for awhile now.

  23. Went with The Ring instead, I haven't seen it since it came out and I haven't seen the sequels. Watching now I'm like, Oh hey that's Amber Tamblyn from House, or Oh hey that's Naomi Watts from Mulholland Drive.

The coloration is so... blue/green. I don't think Ringu was like that. Kind of a weirdly fitting stylistic choice.
