I appreciate how the filmmakers in V/H/S 94 went out of their way to make that stuff look so analog

  2. Just randomly watched a movie I hadn’t heard of before on Netflix called The Wretched. It gave me the creeps! Definitely worth a watch.

  3. After really enjoying You're Next I look into its director Adam Wingard to find out the other people who did V/H/S are behind some of my recent horror faves: Radio Silence (Ready or Not), Ti West (X/Pearl), and David Bruckner (The Night House, Hulu Hellraiser (which isn't out yet but I'm excited for it)); so like, that's definitely on my watch list now

The V/H/S series has been a showcase for so many directors, which is something I really appreciate about them.

Planning to check out the V/H/S series as part of my free month of Shudder. Is it best to start at the beginning or is 94 a good one to start on being the most recent?

I just started a binge run of the [REC] series. First one holds up very well (review here on Letterboxd). That's the only one I've seen before so interested to see where they take it from there.

In between spooky movies, we have been watching Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Some of the jokes are definitely dated - and not in a good way - but overall I still love it with all my heart and a lot of it is genuinely hilarious.

  9. I forgot I'd watched those. The first two are great. The third and fourth aren't as "good" but they're fun in their own right

yeah it's wild how many big names now made a VHS short that I saw years before I knew who they were. I think Benson & Moorhead even did one for that third sequel everybody hates

still think Joe Swanberg's VHS was the best entry, but I haven't seen 94 yet

  11. Honestly I would watch in order, Viral is the only semi-dud and 2 and 94, are the highlights, so you'll have those to look forward to. Plus 99 this month!

The poster for [REC] 3 looks like hot garbage. I can't wait to see it :crylaugh:

Cool will do these next week! Kinda wanted to do a series binge each week leading up to Halloween if I can keep up with that. Might do Scream on the 3rd week then as I've been meaning to catch up on those for ages.

Also, the final run of The Walking Dead starts today for anyone interested. I'm personally looking forward to it finally being over and drawing a line under that franchise for good. Fingers crossed they can go out on a high note.

Always forget that Amateur Night from the first VHS spawned a full-length movie of its own

  14. Def watch 94! It's the best one after 2. And tbh, I say Viral is kind of a dud but at least two of the segments are great so it's not like it's a waste of time

Every VHS movie has one or two dud segments imo

He's good! I'm in a group text group with him and a bunch of other freaks from the "other" video games thread. We talk regularly.

been wanting to check it, I just don't have Shudder because money (and it's catalogue in Australia is kinda slim compared to what you get over there lol). but I might just get it for October and cancel afterwards, I'll watch 94 in there for sure

yeah I just rewatched 2 which was my favourite and even then the zombie and alien segments had me pretty unengaged if not bored. Safe Haven really carries that film on its back lol, though it also has the best wraparound by far

Rec 3 is a tonal shift but is good imo! It's fun. Rec 4 tho... that one was garbage imo

  20. Hey, I think there's a free month available with the code HORRORHOUND? Anyone remember if that's right?

Can't say if it still works, but it did a week or so ago. Definitely worth a shot.

I just signed up for Shudder for the first time. I signed up before but didn’t watch anything and cancelled it because I was too busy: Someone give me a list of the best stuff to check out on there. More into Slasher/Jump scare stuff, but down for anything if it’s good.

Been catching up on the Movie Crypt Podcast and was sad when they said Adam Green's long gestating Killer Pizza project was scrapped due to Covid.

Love his stuff, wish he'd make more. His tendency to insulate himself and only work on his own writing/produced stuff where he has absolute control seems to have really held him back, I think.

  25. I can do this tonight, I'm supposed to do it for another friend who just signed up as well
