Even though I’m not great at stealth, I appreciate that the AI on the human enemies is a lot better in TLOU2 over the original (although I also upped the difficulty mode by one). I’ve definitely had a harder time with it this go around and they are less predictable with how they move through the maps, in addition to the tracking dogs that you have to work around.

done with act 2 of pillars of eternity. at this point it’s pretty easy to see this is going to go down as one of my favorite video games of all time. I’ve hit full blown obsession with diving deep into lore stuff but I also have to be careful because tons of videos out there have spoilers for both games so I may have to wait til I get through deadfire to dive super deep. which I’m very much looking forward to because the first game is so fucking good. once you get the hang of how combat flows and your particular character builds and how to control your party members it’s such a fun combat experience

I just watched a Lexus car commercial where for some reason a middle aged woman was playing a game with a headset on and said 'poggers' :crylaugh::crylaugh::crylaugh::crylaugh::crylaugh::crylaugh::crylaugh::crylaugh::crylaugh::crylaugh::crylaugh::crylaugh::crylaugh:

Player's Log: The Last Tinker: City Of Colors.

So, this game was actually the first game made by the same developers as Desperados 3 and Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun, the latter of which is another game on my to-do list.

It's a 3D platformer in the vein of the first Jak and Banjo-Kazooie. Like the former, it's more level-based and linear than the hub world setup of the latter. It's charming and easy to pick up and play.

The story is based around multiple cities of different colors and the protagonist's city, which welcomes all colors equally. I don't know how heavy that plotline is going to get, but this game is geared for all ages, so I can't imagine it gets too topical.

Anyway, the mechanics are interesting in that for one, the combat system feels weirdly like the Arkham games, in that you lock onto nearby objects and your punch will home in on that target, whether it be enemies or Crash Bandicoot style boxes.

The other, and more interesting switch-up is that this is a platformer without a jump button. Instead, you hold down the run button, and if you're near an object you can jump to, you'll auto-jump to it. This makes sense in context as your character is supposed to be agile and there are a lot of tiny platforms that he'll leap and balance on, so it gives it a sense of parkouring across the environment that would be more difficult to pull off if you were controlling jumping manually.

Anyway, it makes the level traversal fast-paced and it means there's less to think about, which I'm okay with.

I'm enjoying it so far. It's not the greatest platformer, but so far it seems fairly solid for fans of the genre.

Unrelated I would love to hop back into Back 4 Blood if they put local co op on it. Game is screaming to be played with friends on a couch. Shame

Player's Log: The Last Tinker is now 100%.

What a charming little adventure. There's some clever level design in there and the power-ups you get are fun to use. A couple toward the end of the game kind of get shafted a bit, but I think that's a flaw in a lot of these kinds of platformers.

I can't come up with many quibbles that wouldn't be mitigated by the fact that the game has multiple difficulty modes and even a God mode that you can unlock. I was playing on Normal Mode and the final boss was giving me real "Gruntilda-in-Banjo-Kazooie" flashbacks, so I said fuck it and turned on God mode to kill it.

Anyway, the only minor quibble I can come up with is that during rail-grinding segments, the game graphics have this weird motion blur going on that doesn't look good, and also the game positions the rails in ways that make incoming obstacles hard to see sometimes. It's so infrequent though that it's not a big deal.

I could've totally seen this coming out on PS2 when Jak and Ratchet were huge and every third party wanted a 3D platformer of their own. It evokes that same nostalgia.

Now that that's over, next I'm going to go back to pointy and clicky, and play the Edna & Harvey games. There are two of them!

Played the MW2 beta, I thought it was pretty solid. It was very amusing to see people cheating during it, like people just couldn’t help themselves and had to use aimbots to dominate a *checks notes* public online demo.
