The scream in “Runner” is such a perfect encapsulation of Alex G. A beautiful guitar pop song, and it’s almost like he’s itching to tear the pleasantness of it all up, also works within the catharsis of the line.

It’s crazy that my intro to Alex G was a live show when he opened for Manchester a few years ago. This is how I felt watching him.

Now I fucking love him. Powerful Man came on Spotify a couple weeks after that show which set off a discog deep dive. What I wouldn’t give to go back to that show.

Mission, No Bitterness, and Ain’t it Easy are my standouts so far. I do wish Ain’t it Easy went on a couple minutes longer

Nearly done with my first listen and I'm loving it. Not familiar with Alex G except for some songs from Rocket and I feel like I need to get caught up now. Holy Shit

  13. Hell yeah! House of Sugar has a weird pocket of electronic stuff right in the middle, but otherwise it's just as good as this. And those tracks might grow on you! My advice is to embrace the weirdness. I love Beach Music, too.

I am now convinced that Alex G is the greatest indie rock musician making music today.

All about the weirdness! Would it be better to work backwards through his disco or start from the beginning?

It's crazy that I saw him in 2015 open for Speedy Ortiz and only a couple people knew his music.

  18. He's my favorite, but in all honesty I think the greatest is King Krule. In terms of having such a unique voice (literally and figuratively) and creating sounds no one's heard before, where as Alex G more so creates a pastiche of a lot of different genres (which is awesome in its own right)
Backwards for sureeee, especially if you like this and a bit of Rocket. Should be interesting to hear some of that production value get stripped back by the time you hit DSU

House of Sugar is solid. Really liked Gretel and thought the electronic weirdness of tracks like Project 2 were dope

  23. Figured I'd share this, too, for yourself and anyone else who might be interested. Going backwards is def a good idea, but in the past, I've had an easier time getting into a new artist (especially one with a large discography) by creating a playlist with both the essentials and my personal favorite deep cuts from each record. This is up to date with everything he has on Spotify, in case you ever feel like shuffling to get a feel for what songs/albums really click with you.

I made one of these for Porches, too.
