Edit: Also the current lineup for this is a nice supergroup of sorts: Chris Ulsh of Mammoth Grinder/Power Trip fame on guitar, Jensen from Iron Lung on guitar, Connor from Genocide Pact/Red Death/Brain Tourniquet/Protestor/et al. on drums, and Doug who used to play in Rival Mob/Give according to Metal Archives. NEAT.

Tribal Gaze was cool. Mindforce is probably the best release of the day for me though. They've turned up their songwriting a notch.

So the metalgaze/blackgaze trend has become not-so-trendy anymore. Now it's all about "the new wave of death metal" that "everyone is talking about" (https://www.metalsucks.net/2022/07/...-the-new-wave-of-death-metal-as-voted-by-you/).

Personally, black metal is better because it sounds beautiful while still heavy, whereas death metal is being avant-garde but staying horrific.

 

it's his project so i just assumed he's included by default.

good tunes are good tunes regardless of it they're black or death metal, but no one should be taking anything metalsucks does seriously in 2022.

 

As long as we all agree that the best of both subgenres sound like they were recorded with one of these from at least 20 feet away:
