I feel like the fear has just shifted to mass shootings

 

There’s a power plant like 10 minutes away from where I live (in Canada, no less) and all I heard for probably 3 years after was how that was gonna be their next target

 

I was in college in Worcester, MA, and my friend called me from his college in Madison, WI legitimately terrified that they were going to hit his school and/or city either next or real soon. It was a weird time.

90's definitely felt more "Care free" on a societal level, especially the late 90s. Like, adults didn't seem stressed out about world events. Like yeah there were unrestful moments, ala LA Riots, and TV was showing us night vision looks at Desert Storm and Kosovo and Iraq, but there wasn't the sense of stress with those events evident in the adults like I remember it in the aftermath of 9/11. It was more like yeah those events are going on, but generally life in America is getting better, we're not scared, etc.

But I was a kid in the 90s so probably need people older then me to really understand it. But it def seemed like the 90's was that sweet spot between the collapse of the Soviet Union and 9/11 where America was feeling itself a bit, not constant worry about nuclear war, economy fueled by bubbles to the point where poverty dropped, etc.

 

I'm dying at David learning about other countries and becoming a Maoist Third-Worldist immediately by accident. Yes brother, we are the labor aristocracy, join us in bringing death to AmeriKKKa

Actually the only labor aristocracy are the careerist union bureaucrats that stifle labor radicalism and delivers the proletariat into The hands of electoralism.

lol well I literally know nothing about Chile’s economic conditions and America is all I have to compare it to!

 

my trot hat is made out of my party’s newspaper. as is my shirt and pants, and all of my clothes. my apartment furniture is just stacks of party newspapers.

 

We have a Colonial Pipeline tank farm just outside town that's the halfway point from TX and the Northeast so they always have a ton of fuel on hand. For about a month after 9/11 the army had tanks and anti aircraft missiles protecting it because if hit it would have shut down gas distribution for most of the east coast
