really? Everything I've seen indicates its a bit of a mess that doesn't have much going for it beyond the visuals

 

Metacritic has it as 71 which isn't bad for a new show (HOTD has a 68 fwiw).

 

Quick glances at Metacritic (71) and Rotten Tomatoes (83) seem far more positive than negative.

 

oh wow good to know. was still going to watch it, but maybe now I can have a bit of hope its actually good

I'm excited for this. Gonna have to binge the 2 as soon as they're out as I'm going to a big con this weekend and I'm sure it will be full of spoilers/opinions with those that have already watched it and I don't want to have it be tainted.

And honestly, a lot of the review seem to be that it's just slow and hasn't found it's footing but it's a billion $ show over multiple seasons so whatever to that. It's 8 episodes, I won't judge it after 2. I'll have opinions, but nothing that says 'this is good' or 'this is bad'.

 

I’ve seen the first two episodes and it’s not a mess at all. It’s just trying to introduce you to a world with many moving parts. There’s some incredible lines of dialogue here and it’s clear that the writers know exactly what they’re doing. It’s visually stunning and the score is beautiful. Most people will love it I think.

Anyone who thinks this is a mess is being incredibly disingenuous. If you’re even remotely interested in Tolkien you’ll get something out of this.

 

The dynamic between Elrond and Durin is really great and I can’t wait to see more between those characters.

Stopping at 1 tonight. I very much enjoyed this. Kinda shocked. Immediately better than The Hobbits.
