Round one is here. 62 years of albums with 2 convenient ties. What album will come out on top? The final batch of the first round.

NOTICE: PLEASE DO NOT VOTE UNLESS YOU'VE HEARD BOTH ALBUMS. STOP DOING THIS SHIT.

For this matchup, we start with:

    (6) My Chemical Romance - The Black Parade

    vs.

    (59) Black Sabbath - Paranoid

it'll be inevitable, but this is a somewhat spotty album that isn't as good as the one proceeding it vs. one that essentially invented two genres and is a lean monster. paranoid.

You lost RATM to the better album and band. This though, there is no excuse

I was bummed when Paranoid won its year, but it's the easy pick here, even if The Black Parade is EASILY their best album.

Sabbath 100%, without them there wouldn’t have been a lot of bands today including MRC themselves.

Not sure if this needs to be said, but you don’t automatically have to vote for the more influential album. You can acknowledge the importance of one while also liking the other more.

Release My Mind, My Garden Grows

I've never really liked MCR at all as a band and equally never liked Black Parade outside of probably Famous Last Words.

I did a deep dive on Ozzy era Sabbath a few years back (highly recommend) and that really solidified my love for their early records up to Sabotage. They were unstoppable between 1970-75 and Paranoid is just one of the all time great rock/metal records for me.

That Electric Funeral riff has been burned into my mind since first hearing it at 13. Probably hum it at least every other day.

Going to have to take some time on this one and sort out my thoughts. Ozzy through the 00s really soured me on the legacy of Sabbath, and all the bickering and fighting through the first reunion and forward left me with a sour taste in my mouth for them. But it's hard to deny Iommi and Butlers magnificent playing and writing on this that TBP doesn't hit for me.

Lyrics have always been Ozzys weak point, and I don't think he could ever write something as good as: "I spent my high school career spit on and shoved to agree/ so I could watch all my heroes sell a car on tv"

Voted Paranoid but it was tough

I’m also very much in the minority and prefer Dio Sabbath, but Paranoid rips

There are a lot of reasons I voted for Rumours, but “gave us Haim” is not one of them. Nothing against Haim.

One of Sabbath’s best selling points: you never notice they just have one guitarist. I find a lot of big rock bands with just one guitar player sound kind of empty at times. But Sabbath never do

I hear you, just easier to say that than " the lyrics to all of Ozzys songs have always been the weak point, whether it was Geezer writing them in Sabbath or his ghost writers he used solo".
