They need to bring back the Western Ave bus. Inexplicable they cut that out as it relieves so much Pink Line congestion with people traveling to the north side

Pretty sure this is the non-paywall version of the same story: Agreement to keep Lollapalooza in Chicago calls for tighter rules on competing Grant Park music fests and raises the number of fans allowed

Since this often comes up in the speculation about Riot Fest moving, the new Lollapalooza agreement further ensures Riot won't be going to Grant Park any time soon.

I don’t know where it could realistically go, but I honestly do think this year might be the last in Douglass Park. I just hope wherever they move is not in the suburbs and not in a super sketchy area. Also being accessible by public transit is a huge plus.

This is what I'm gonna try, I'm terrified of a conflict.

This shit killed me last year. Came from the burbs so parked at the Cicero Pink Line station and had to wait for a train west because they kept getting filled up by people who were just going west one stop and switching to east. Hopefully they run more eastbound trains this year.

Someone mentioned to me the possibility of getting a hotel down by the airport and finding a way to riot each day instead of dealing with all of this crap going back into Chicago, but I can’t imagine getting an uber is any easier.

The level of crowded that the pink line was after the festival last year, coupled with how drunk certain people were, left my partner feeling super uncomfortable. So we wound up ditching the train on Friday and taking an Uber home each night.

It's certainly not easy, but every block you walk away from the festival it gets easier and easier. I forget the distance, but we basically went far enough away that it was us and maybe 3-4 other groups of people waiting for our rides on the same street and were usually home within 20-30 minutes of leaving the festival grounds each night. Just don't do what a lot of people do and order your ride like, right on the main drag 20 feet from the gate. Recipe for letdown.

It's costly, and arguably requires more energy, but it's definitely a time-saver if you do it right.

  8. If you walk East on Ogden a couple blocks there’s a church that will serve you the best nachos you’ve ever had. Go there and eat, check the Uber/Lyft situation, and if it’s still rough, walk a few more blocks and try again. There’s plenty of people around leaving the fest but it’s far enough away to get a reasonable ride (in my experience!)

It’s worth it just for the jerk chicken nachos tho

I’m thinking about the Alkaline Trio Thursday show at the metro. I’m not from the area but mildly familiar with Chicago. Are there any trains that run that way? What’s the easiest way to get there if not?

Looked at booking a car service to pick us up each night, not cheap but what are the chances they’ll actually find us.
The app/site is called Blacklane has anyone used this??

The Addison Red Line stop is just a few blocks from Metro. Basically walk around Wrigley Field and you’re there.

I was hoping to take transit but ended up doing the walk a few blocks & use rideshare thing. Coming from NYC, Uber/Lyft are insanely cheap in Chicago. I just walked until the surges went down, maybe like 10ish minutes, then ordered & it was perfect for me all weekend

In the article Jason posted on the News feed, it mentions that Pvris is playing their first 2 albums in full at their aftershow. Only Brooklyn Vegan has mentioned this. Pvris, Riot Fest, & Cobra Lounge haven't mentioned it at all. This shit is so annoying when this happens, cause if they're playing White Noise I'm 100% in if they're not this is a firm pass

What's the general etiquette on wearing masks on public transit in Chicago, btw? Do most wear them or not?

  19. I still wear one, but most people don't.

the public transit leaving the fest thursday night last year was a nightmare, and ubers were like $70.00. friday on we just parked on the street and it worked out fine. we even asked a cop standing around like is this cool and he said "yeah you should be fine." lmao

It pains me to say this but I decided to skip the aftershows this year. There is so much good stuff but last year I was a total wreck after each day so just thinking about hustling to get to another part of town while I can barely stand on my feet makes me anxious. I'm just hoping that I could catch all of them in the festival.

I feel you! I think this is the first year that I would really want to go to an aftershow every night if I hadn’t learned my lesson about me and aftershows already.

  24. Yeah, I think I'm going to skip the aftershows too. Lots of great options, but nothing I think I'll really regret missing.

I did go see JEW in their Lolla aftershow last year and it was one of the best shows I was ever in and that is why I feel bummed about it. I wanted to go to the The ones I wanted to go to were Anberlin on Friday which I will see on the fest anyway. The Saturday ones were Thursday doing FC which I already seen live on their FC tour a few years back, TAI and AOF which I will see for the first time at RF and JEW which I have seen 3-4 times in the past.

The funny thing is that the one that hurts the most I will be skipping is the only one of them I did see in the past (JEW).

Also, I'm probably going to have my wife drop me off and picking me up every night (like a 10 year old boy) so just thinking about getting to any other venue afterwards makes my head hurt.
