Architects - the classic symptoms of a broken spirit (October 21st, 2022) Album • Page 2

  1. Well I think we can deduce the reason why the music has shifted sonically from then to now

I think “the peak” of where they were at with everything prior to For Those is a much smaller mountain than the one they’re trying to climb now. Going #1 overseas in multiple countries and playing in front of 20-40K people a night with Biffy Clyro all summer is a world of difference than headlining a House of Blues in a van every other night.

I do agree that lyrically this seems uninspired - the song itself is growing on me, even if I think the chugging is less good than it was on WWWY or Animals. But the chorus is mad libs. The verses are better but still a bit plain.

I like when I see Architects threads on the front page because it reminds me that Hollow Crown exists and I go listen to a couple bangers off of it.

Figured it out - it’s the “anything is possible, we could be unstoppable” line that gets the eye roll. That’s what sounds like generic rock radio. Arena rock meaninglessness.

Change just that lyric and I think it’s better. Not as good as a lot of their stuff, but less generic. That’s enough.

…still preordered the record though because fuck yeah.

Was interested at first but once Sam came in I was done. Thought the last album was ok but I was hoping they could develop it into something I liked more. Oh well, I bet if they toured with Parkway Drive soon it’d be pretty successful.

This exactly, I have no issues with When We Were Young but that line in this one just makes me think of generic 2015 rock music

Wild that a lyric invokes an entire genre.

I'm on an Architects kick, revisiting random albums here and there which means

Top 5 Architects riffs LET'S GO

    The entire song

The math-y riff reminiscent of Sikth in the verses

    The dissonant main riff

    The main riff

    The one at 01:20

    Bonus:

The one at 00:26, it's a simpler one for them but played so fast it always hypes me up

Their more riff centric songs are so fun to play... and so easy to mess up, especially the ones that rely on dissonant chords the most.

Honorable mentions: The Shadow Of A Doubt, Gravedigger, Castles In The Air, the tapping riff in Gone With The Wind, Doomsday's chorus one, The Devil Is Near's one that's akin to a breakdown...

OK I’m back on my bullshit and this grew on me like “Animals” did. This song fucks and I don’t care if it was built for slack jawed arena dummies, it’s gonna sound GREAT live.

Also: the comments here got me to check out Parkway Drive, and while I don’t hate them melodically and get the comparisons/digs people were making, Sam is on another planet with his vocals compared to that guy.

I get why people aren't too keen on their new direction after knowing and becoming accustomed to what Architects have sounded like for the majority of their career, but I think with the trio of 'LF/LT', 'All Our Gods...' and 'Holy Hell' they'd pretty much done all that they can with that sound and reached the peak of what they'll achieve with it along with inspiring waves of new bands to do the same.

I think they pull off the more arena rock direction well and better than most, and there's no doubt these new songs sound massive live. I've no doubt 'tear gas' and whatever else is on the new album will follow suit.

Well, there's no other way to put it. This is devastating. It was a bummer to have it postponed for almost a full year, but I never felt like it was in jeopardy of not happening at all. Sad start to the week.

I don't think that's necessarily the case (unless there's some info I'm unaware of)... other foreign bands have had to cancel US tours recently because there's a huge backlog in work visa approvals. Northlane canceled a US tour for the same reason, they couldn't get their visa approved in time.

    No Fun. Not Ever.

As someone who has never checked out that record, I thank you. Listening right now and it's pretty damn good.

When 'Hollow Crown' released is when I got into the band, and honestly I'd say either that or 'All Our Gods...' is their best album for me - the two switch depending on my mood.

If I was to do an order of album preferences right now, it'd be:

    Hollow Crown
All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us
    Lost Forever // Lost Together
    Daybreaker
    Holy Hell
For Those That Wish To Exist
    Ruin
    Nightmare
    The Here And Now

Man. That would be a KILLER opener (if they can ever make it back to America).

Reminds me of “Don’t Stay” by Linkin Park, in the best way.
