Very curious to the motive.

 

Is his death actually confirmed? I'm not seeing it anywhere.

 

I'm seeing that he was shot from behind with a shotgun. Possible cardiac arrest, no vital signs.

The latest I can find from 24 minutes ago says he is in a state of cardiopulmonary arrest, but they point out that that term is often used in Japan before an official announcement / confirmation of death is made.

Very curious as well. There is a strong history of assassinations in modern Japan and the assassin is almost always a right wing ultranationalist

He was a conservative PM and visited the controversial Yasukuni shrine which includes former WWII soldiers. There are people and nations that are vehemently against PMs visiting there, citing the various atrocities committed by Japan in WWII.

Other than that, he was receiving attention about embezzlement and bribery, but I feel like that’s not much grounds for an assassination…
