Tried to rewatch Fellowship of the Ring for the first time since I was a kid and just couldn't get through it, we were so bored heh

Yeah I was pretty surprised that it was boring to me because I totally loved it as a kid

Amazon for some reason put the new teaser behind a paywall, but here's the new teaser anyway

It's too long, my jaw dropped when I saw the extended edition is a full fucking hour longer lol

I honestly am disturbed by this development. Might need to request an extra therapy session this month.

And my God, I know it's because it's based on a book, but the sheer amount of exposition is exhausting. Took so long to get to the elves

I know I'm in the minority, and again, I truly did love this movie as a kid and still have my widescreen format DVD. Idk, just doesn't do it for me anymore

  16. Still too much cgi; still gonna love this anyway

I'm usually right there with you, but Fellowship is phenomenal. Best film of the first trilogy and best Peter Jackson Middle-Earth film. For me they actually go straight in order of release best-to-worst. It's all downhill haha.

Fellowship nailed the balance of telling the story while still trying to make a solid, well-paced movie, and I think you can tell watching the movies that they were still being told "no" sometimes while making Fellowship, which oftentimes leads to being more creative. I think every Peter Jackson Tolkien movie after Fellowship is a victim of its own success so-to-speak, though the other two films in the LOTR trilogy are still fantastic movies.

The Hobbit movies are absolute garbage though. Trash. I still get upset when I think of how much of a wasted opportunity they were. Phenomenal actors, amazing crew, world class VFX artists, seemingly limitless budgets and absolutely no idea what fucking story they're even telling.

When I got the notification someone named Glaurung had commented I was like "this could go a lot of ways" and it went the one I didn't expect. Love a good Silmarillion reference.

I do feel like enjoying the PJ films as a Tolkien purist is often a hot take, but I feel that the films are about as good as you can do them in that medium at the time. Obviously some glaring omissions and changes but they're great imo.

Now this Amazon Prime LOTR-Inspired show........not so much. I do not have high (any) hopes.
