Wish I could go to this tour without supporting DGD. I really just want to see Royal Coda

 

I'm obviously not alone in this, but how I take the band going forward is all dependent on whether or not Tilian does eventually return. I'm pretty confident that he won't be, and 'Jackpot Juicer' and the other albums here's appeared on will always be tainted for me now, but I think I can continue to be a fan if that's the end for him. Likewise if this is their final record then I've still got Secret Band and their other projects to enjoy.

I've got tickets to the Manchester date of the UK tour which is still a few months away now, so I wonder what their vocalist situation will be then as I think Andrew has been pretty adamant that he only wants to front Eidola.

 

Not sure why people think Tilian won't be back.
They brought back Jonny and even after they booted him again plus all his additional shit they still toured with him extensively.

Tilian left to " go get help" so after his mandatory therapy sessions and some "redemption rehab" I fully expect him to come back to band.

 

Why do you keep posting in here? We’ve all stated how we have conflicting feelings on this band and aren’t necessarily happy supporting them currently. You’ve posted how you don’t like them and aren’t fucking with them anymore which is completely fine.

Speculating also does no good. None of us want him back either. I’m fine with them ending in fact.

I hate that I’m tuned into the drama of this community, but the original victim (who I still believe 100%) is now defending her friend who was 24 and slept with a 14 (!!!!!!!!!) year old, the justification of course is “she lied about her age so it’s okay and he’s not a pedo.” an absolute fucking mess and disgusting hill to die on I don’t even know what to say anymore about this fucking community, I’m sick to my stomach she has been up and down twitter defending this dude with every ounce of her being and claiming the 14 year old girl isn’t a victim

 

I believe her story 100%, but I also remember a lot of people not believing her based solely on how she acts on social media. I believe she even got kicked out of DGD Facebook groups. I feel bad for her having to go through what she did with Tilian, but I think her public persona has always been kind of gross. DGD is such a talented band, it sucks that this is basically how an average DGD fan thinks and behaves though. The only tolerable DGD fans I've interacted with are either people I've known for years and introduced to the band, or people on Chorus (with some exceptions still). I want to support the band if (hopefully when) they get a new vocalist, but their fan base seriously makes me question whether I want to be associated with the band in any way and I may end up just moving on from the band at this point. Defending a 24-year-old sleeping with a 14-year-old is disgusting, and it makes me feel even grosser because I'm not even a little surprised to hear this.

 

it’s so wild to me that ppl project fan actions onto the band. i’m all for critiquing artists for their missteps but not to the extent that they’re held to a standard beyond what is typical for any other business community. obviously a band the size of DGD will have a number of shitty fans with shitty opinions in it. if you’re so deep in a fanbase that random ppl’s opinions affect your enjoyment of the music, it’s time to log off. i promise you a solid majority of the ppl you see repping DGD merch probably aren’t even aware of the recent allegations, so this judgment of being associated with the fanbase at all seems a touch out of reality to me.

that’s not to say the dgd drama doesn’t get to me too. i saw the latest bs on the subreddit this morning and decided not to repost it here because some things just aren’t worth discussing or “raising awareness” about. at a certain point it feels like drama for the sake of drama. none of this conversation does anything to actually help victims, so wtf is the point?

 

I feel like it’s important to note a member of the dgd community (which is a significant number of people and unfortunately does reflect on the band when members of the band engage with the Facebook groups and subreddits on a semi regular basis) r*p*d a 14 year old and people are out here defending that

 

ok but ppl defend rape every day, in and outside of music communities. this is so beyond what DGD has influence over. i have no idea how this case is connected to DGD beyond Mikaela and her tweets (which i haven’t seen tbf), so how exactly are we supporting this 14yo victim and holding the rapist accountable by attaching the case to a metalcore band from the 2000s? i understand having zero tolerance for pedophilia in a community, but i honestly do not see how mikaela is a relevant figure in the fanbase at all, and i frankly feel bad for the victim, whose allegations are now being turned into ammo against someone who recently came out with allegations of her own. none of this feels good.

 

well several people in the community have been coming out with stories about sexual assault within the community, pointing to a larger issue within this scene of music which again is more tight knit and community based than most other genres and surrounding bands, there’s a reckoning going on and I thought this case was connected to it all, it just so happens mikaela who was the original catalyst for this reckoning is out there defending pedophilia, many people I’ve seen have said they still believe her and think she needs to deal with her own trauma but have shown disappointment in this because she was such an advocate for other victims like the second one who accused tilian among others to get their stories out about sexual assault within this scene. that’s all, that’s my line of thinking, disagree if you want but I think it’s significant

 

First: I'm pretty sure your profile pic is a reference to Zoro in One Piece so just wanted to say that's a dope pic. Happy to not be the only one with a One Piece profile pic on here.

But I'll say, I get what you're saying and I think in the case of many bands I would agree. But DGD is now 2 for 3 on getting genuine pieces of shit to front the band, and while I don't think that's necessarily the band's fault, they've also done next to nothing to distance themselves from that. I mean, even after all the shit Johnny did, they still took him out on that 10-year tour. And even with how much worse Johnny has become since that tour, they still associate with him. At least on social media. That always left a bad taste in my mouth, but I kept with them because I like their music. But then the shit with Tilian came out and their messaging was not very clear about Tilian's status within the band. I guess what I'm trying to get at is that while I don't think the band is responsible for Johnny or Tilian, they also have not said or done much of anything to distance themselves from it. And I think that has made the worst of their fanbase unusually comfortable with having and sharing really gross views. I get from a business standpoint that they don't want to piss off and lose a chunk of their fans, but I worry that the band's lack of substantial action within these situations they constantly find themselves in will push out their decent fans, leaving only the shitty ones. I'm already seeing it happen, and at the end of the day, if a band's fanbase is made up of mostly r*pe apologists, I don't want to associate with that band.

we’ll agree to disagree, and no shade to @sophos34 for posting about this, i’m just very much of the mind that until we as a community can adequately and consistently hold abusers accountable, examining the words and actions of others only serves to distract attention from the people who perpetuate abuse. DGD may very well be enablers, but the weight of consequences should be on the shoulders of the actual abusers in the scene imo. i know everyone in this thread rn has good intentions tho, it’s just a divergence of how we want to reach the same goal of eradicating abuse in the community.

 

so there's some new stuff coming out on the DGD reddit, i haven't read it all yet but it sounds like the original accusation has been completely disproved, because some voice memos were revealed where she said that everything was entirely consensual, and not only that but she was planning on targeting "tim's grieving brother" next. obviously this doesn't mean much for Tilian as the second accusation and his response was much worse, but at least he wasn't lying about the first one?

 

I just think the band and the community surrounding it is unique compared to other hands and scenes of music. Which means when this band has had two abusive lead singers, and there are still claims out there about Andrew sexting a 16 year old and Jon dating someone fresh out of high school in his late 20’s that have gone ignored (plus the claim will knew what tilian was doing and didn’t step in) and then multiple people within the community claim they were assaulted by other members of the community, it’s hard not to see all of it as connected

 

I dunno, it’s entirely possible she was just saying that because she wasn’t ready to come out with what actually happened yet, abuse victims can take a while to realize what they went through was indeed abuse and that doesn’t make it any less valid, but yeah the thing about tims brother was extremely gross

side note: i really thought (and it is still my understanding that) the timeline on jonny’s sexual assault allegations is that they came out some time after the dgd anniversary show and that that is also the last of their associations with him. if its not then thats gross.

There was a tweet from someone saying Andrew sent them dick pics when she was 16 so to me that one is pretty credible, the jon dating someone fresh out of high school in his mid to late 20’s would’ve been several years ago at this point and I’m not even sure where that source came from so it’s hard to say for sure how credible that one is but it is something I’ve heard about several times at this point so it’s probably worth looking into but no one really has

I’ve always felt very cautious with my fandom for this band because of their history with Johnny and some of the red flags I had seen or heard of regarding Tilian (nothing that hasn’t ever been discussed on this site before), but I think a solid portion of the warped tour/alternative press scene of post hardcore/pop punk/metalcore bands has a lot of fanbases like this that are truly toxic.

I mean, even spending a short amount of time on Circa Survive’s discord has shown me a lot of toxic viewpoints and behavior. There’s a lot of crossover between fans of different bands, obviously. It’s really disheartening to see it frequently, whether it’s on Twitter, Facebook, Discord, Reddit, or whatever. This shit is rampant. However, I will say, Circa has always been vocal about their beliefs and desire to create a safe space, whereas DGD continues to strike me as a band that just continues to cultivate this toxic culture. There are just way too many red flags for me with that band at this point to ever give them the benefit of the doubt again.
