I'm not gonna rank albums today, today is all about how awesome this one is

This is more rock opera. Vaxis 1 is proggy. Hard to compare for me.

Vaxis 1 is my favorite coheed album most days (NWFT and IKS on others) so it seems wildly unfair to compare after one initial listen (that not I’m not quite done with) but on its own merits this record is really doing it for me. lots of great production tricks that are just pure ear candy, disappearing acts vocal effects are absolutely phenomenal (some nights anyone?), and the instrumentals rip and shred as hard as any other coheed album, josh really goes in on love murder one’s verses, you’ve got absolute riff city shit on comatose (cannot wait to teach myself how to play that one on guitar), overall this album is just expertly crafted and surprisingly enough stretches the outer limits of the coheed sound to some interesting places, successfully might I add.

but I’m a huge fucking Stan and will be getting my key work tattoo soon so I could be biased

It's good to know that I'm not the only Coheed superfan to really feel this way, haha. This album hits in all the right ways for me.

Yeah, almost everyone gushed over it on release and many have been singing its praises ever since. Lots of talk about best since the IKS/GA days (which I agree with). I mean, it's fine that some people love the new one and I don't, but I feel like this board has a habit of forcing enthusiasm when something drops... we'll see in a year.

  11. Something about the phrase "forced enthusiasm" on a day where people are excited about music and the world is burning down around them just doesn't set well with me.

Even if I burn out on this and am more objective with it in a year, I'll still remember how happy it made me on release day/week. That's good enough for me now. I was looking through my posts on TUC and I really don't think I made too many outlandish claims. I said it was their best output since NWFT, which I probably still stand by even if I think there are individual songs on Afterman that are better.

They've always been reasonably priced. Super cool place. I get my haircut by the barbers that cut in there, and they host small shows and signings/meet and greets.

  16. I still see this acronym as "NFT" and every time am like "Wait did this band do a NFT release"

Am I in the minority of thinking the title track is the weakest one? It felt meandering to me and never went where I wanted it to go for a closer

holy mother of god @claudios voice on ladders of supremacy. holy shit. this far in and he can still leave me in complete awe. And that guitar is no joke either fuck I love this band. this song is pinnacle of prog coheed. that dual guitar riff is basically why I listen to this kind of shit.

Vinyl should be here this weekend, still waiting for my deluxe edition to ship

forever my all time favorite band, and albums like this continue to solidify that. This is so damn good, and it’s amazing how easily they can go from pop to prog on the drop of a dime.

and again I can’t stop thinking that this is Josh’s best performance. Drums are incredible on this thing
