True but I feel like from a public opinion standpoint, not pausing it is worse for that reason.

Listening to one of the local radio stations yesterday on my way home from work the DJ was like “I don’t usually talk about this kind of stuff, but President Biden is considering a gas tax holiday which could save you up to 18 cents at the pump. Pretty cool stuff! Now here’s more music”

like you said, a self inflicted wound. since the admin proposed it now everyone is expecting it and anything less of that will piss people off

People are still going to shit all over him if he pauses the gas tax even if prices didn’t go up. It’s not enough to help the issue and he hasn’t done anything to really help anyone his whole presidency so he’s fighting an impossible battle. At this point he needs to do something like cancel all student debt to save his ass. Otherwise both sides are going to continually and rightfully despise his presidency.

If he cancels all my student loans I’ll pay for my neighbor’s gas for the whole summer

Fuck it, lets raise the gas tax to pay for canceling all student loan debt. I’m down to pay $10 a gallon.

I'd rather see a tax on oil & gas company profits than one that would just hurt the communities that are still dependent on gas powered vehicles for everyday needs. Then use that tax revenue to invest in public transport, transit oriented development, bike infrastructure and bike purchase rebates.

I was more so joking, yeah I don’t. I’m actually very lucky that I work from home and my girlfriend works 3-4 miles from home. I can’t even imagine if either/both of us had a long commute. My only long trip for the week is a 90 minute round trip to drop my daughter off at her moms. Covid has also really made me hate grocery stores so I use instacart for most of my shopping so we don’t use our car all that much. I feel for anyone who lives in a rural setting or has a long commute. It cost $75 to fill our tank last week and I was shocked because we had not filled up in awhile. It’s absolutely insane.

I would like to see the government to be a force of good in all things public health and that includes ending smoking cigarettes

alongside improving the healthcare system, fighting COVID, dealing with pollution and other environmental issues, dealing with alcoholism, drug addictions, promoting healthy diets, etc.

unfortunately the government does barely anything or all of those things

    wanna go for a ryyyde

jfc was just apartment hunting recently and its a very fine line trying to gauge whether a potential landlord is somewhere in between not giving a shit at all and being a nosy prick

Eh, the amount of cost and burden cigarettes add to the health care system can’t be overstated. Getting them out of society (without an outright ban) will be very good overall

It's fucking annoying how socially acceptable it is to just litter cigarette butts everywhere.

Our landlord loves to email the whole building and tell us that we are “under surveillance.” It rules!
