And like, that’s the band drama stuff with him. Who really knows how far his awful ways reached amongst fans and women. Unfathomable.

the timeline ive heard is that jonny raped somebody after he got kicked from dgd the second time

and hopefully that revelation was after they had him out for that anniversary tour they did where he played a couple tracks with them

thats what someone else said in this thread a while back.

Wouldnt doubt it, but all of the above happened as well.

The most horrific allegations I’d seen were from one of his exes some time in the past decade who said he was definitely physically abusive and had gone as far as to (I’m going to spoiler tag and give a triggering warning)

hold her down by her throat and threaten her with his heroin syringes.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought the band kicked Kurt out so they could bring Johnny back for DBM2, not that Kurt left and they decided to bring back Johnny as a result

I don’t know that I ever caught the real reasoning behind Kurt’s departure. Could’ve been to get Jonny back, but I know that splitting with Kurt almost ended the band until they reconnected with JC for the second album.

They kicked out Kurt because they intended to do one more cycle with Jonny and then break up

i remember they started writing dbm2 behind kurts back and they were disillusioned with his live performances at the time

Not that it's the super important parts and apologies if it comes across as nit picking, but I believe he was removed from Ghost Runner On Third for some form of a fight with one of the guitarists.

I think he was providing a lot of hassle for DGD during the tours promoting DBM when they were obviously trying to be taken seriously early in their career, but the straw that broke the camel's back was when he was late on stage and missed the first half of an opening song of their set. Wherever that show was is where the band left him and I think it was A Skylit Drive that picked him up - he toured providing fill-in vocals for them for a little while until Rise asked him to join Emarosa after Chris Roetter stepped down from the band.

Jonny rejoined DGD for DBM2 because the band originally intended to split up after that album and saw it as a last reunion hurrah. They kicked Kurt out, he didn't choose to leave. During that time was the All-Stars incident and also the MacBook scandal in 2011. I believe he caused a bit of trouble during his time with Isles & Glaciers too, but I could be wrong on that.

Yeah this is what I remembered happening. I think the reception for Happiness wasn’t what they were hoping for and I remember there being talks about Kurt’s live performance so they did DBM2, intended to do those two DBM shows to ply both albums, and then break up

the macbook thing was insane. the band definitely kept jonny through some really messed up stuff. he kept selling a fake macbook over and over on twitter, i don't know if the number ever came out but i remember at least 10 people on social media talking and realizing that they were all falling for a scam. even worse, is that rise records bailed him out and paid all the fans back and then they kept touring with him knowing he took advantage of the trust of their fans. my band played a show with them at one point and jonny was asking the other bands if they knew where he could find some heroin before the show. he even made a macbook joke on stage. they kicked him out again shortly after that but mentioned "he always has a place in the band"

Alright, then. His fame is irrelevant no matter how many people he rapes.

YES. Anybody raping anybody is bad. “level of fame” doesn’t matter. Like art, a persons influence is subjective based on how much someone cares about who they are. My dad wouldn’t know who the fuck any of the people in DGD are and still agree that this dude is shit just for doing what he did.

Anyone who rapes someone is an awful human being whether they’re a nobody or the most famous person in the world. However, when you are someone with any level of notoriety, you are expected to not abuse the power, influence, and platform that you have and if you do you do not deserve to have any of that again.

I hate even humoring this absurd fame debate because it’s literally void of any purpose. However, I think it’s wrong to even say this band isn’t “famous”. Sure, if you set the goalpost as Blink-182, DGD isn’t that big. But no band in this genre is that big. It’s an impossible scale. Within post-hardcore, DGD is one of the biggest names at this point. If someone likes heavy music, chances are they are at the very least aware of DGD. DGD is massive for what they do. And Tilian clearly used the status that gave him to do horrible things to fans. Fuck Tilian, and fuck the fact that this is what a discussion on r*pe devolved into.

People here decided the fame I referenced has some effect on being a successful rapist. The point was that he isn’t famous and it didn’t have an affect in his rapist activities. He feeds off of people & he’s not famous. That’s the point.

What's funny about Alkaline Trio replacing DGD on the Coheed tour is that a lot of the DGD fans will have no idea that DGD was removed. They'll still show up thinking DGD is playing.

I put in a ticketmaster refund request today, but not hopeful seeing as they were the opener.

What’s ludicrous are people thinking that being involved in bands culture makes the band famous. It’s completely ridiculous.

The band is small peanuts. They’re more of a Prog rock act. They aren’t big in the senses that they’re highest selling album isn’t in the top 10 billboard. They’ve never been certified gold or platinum. They headline 300-500 person rooms, not ballrooms. & when they play ballrooms they open not headline.
They have their own festival. That’s not unusual at this point. It had mild attendance. The bands that played that show are also not popular. Bands found 50k-100k+ on the charts are big. It’s ridiculous to think this band is big in any stretch. They are more popular than a street level band or local or some indie artists. That’s about it. Just because people may know the name because of a friend, merch, or they opened a show for a band doesn’t equal success or notoriety. The most famous thing about this band is JC & all of his scandals. All of this spanning a 20 year career & they have been lapped by multiple bands In their own and adjacent genres. You like them… that’s great. They play a role on this site…great. Not even close to famous or even successful. In fact they’ve been their own worst enemy with the failure that have hindered they’re career.

Anyone believing this is an isolated incident within the band is out of touch. Their bassist OD’d. Tilian is a rapist. JC stole from fans, assaulted people, was an out right pos & continues to be. -They brought him back which was disgusting regardless if they were supposedly going to “call it a day” after the tour. Kurt was deemed negligible & fired by will swan even though things were successful at he time. Anyone believing this band isn’t toxic as a whole is really just not in touch with reality. The band didn’t even fire Tilian, yet. And they are releasing their album with him because Tim died. There’s still a rapist in the album. Anyone thinking that’s not toxic is also out of touch.

The fame aspect has nothing to do with Tilian being a rapist. It was in addition to addressing his indiscretions. He’s guilty.

Except the only people we know who he raped were super fans. People who aren't famous don't have those. It's fucking hilarious reading you say "that's the point" though because you literally don't have a point. You've just been dying on the hill of one of the dumbest opinions I've ever seen expressed on this site, and I've been on here since the AbsolutePunk days: at least 10 years at this point.

You wrote this dumb fucking thing while I was typing too... jesus. You just wrote a fucking essay on how because DGD doesn't top the charts, they aren't famous? I literally don't even know how to respond to this without beating a dead horse. Fame is relative. Tilian is literally a millionaire because of DGD. You have no "point", and the one you keep trying to make is just you expressing your weird, personal, definition of fame, and then acting like it has ANY relevance to this situation. It is entirely irrelevant. I'm glad you, at the very least, are not trying to defend Tilian or the band. But fuck dude, I know it's the internet, but read the room. I'm not going to respond beyond this. I already feel like a dumbass for even humoring this shit. But I seriously suggest going back and reading your posts and the responses to them and seriously thinking about if this is the time or place to be doing this. If your takeaway is "Yeah, this feels right" maybe this isn't the best community for you to join.
