TFOI is a cool album for what it is but come on, y’all

 

It's definitely a peak metalcore album from that era IMO. Probably would only put It Dies Today's The Catiff Choir ahead of it in terms of my favorites from around then.

But yeah, that's some fucking hyperbole. Lol.

 

That IDT album goes so hard, I should spin that tonight

 

The drumming on TFOI is so good that said, that and Oli’s playing still sounds awesome.

 

Second album with screamed vocals I bought after Waking the Fallen from A7X. Not even ashamed to admit it.

Also yeah that new Sumerlands is great, the vocals are vastly improved and not so buried beneath the effects from the last album

 

I'd almost agree that Fall of Ideals changed the game, but I feel like it was really was more a combination of that entire New England scene (KSE, ATR, Shadows Fall, Unearth, etc...) that affected the trajectory of metal/metalcore

 

It didn’t though, like it’s a solid metalcore album but that’s really it and the band is being quite haughty to suggest that an album released at the tail end of NWOAHM metalcore’s dominance in metal is this watershed moment or something. Hell, they didn’t even stick to that sound and went full on red state hard rock radio with their next album.

 

Yeah, them praising a scene they had influence on, which they then completely abandoned, is a bit much

 

Speaking personally, I prefer This Darkened Heart and The Fall of Ideals to most any other albums from that era tbh. Overcome even had some decent songs, but they definitely went straight to hell after those albums. Appropriately that also coincides with Phil developing into the Phil we know today so I don't think there's much of a coincidence there...
