I'd be down for the homie that produced TBEITBN. That thing sounded amazing.

I'm trying to imagine how this would sound because he's worked with so many bands and artists and what I'm thinking of the most is Weezer and that's bizarre. What'd you have in mind?

Looked through his disco, Moving Mountains was most interesting to see

that would be interesting to hear, didn't even consider that kind of washed out, in and out focus sort of quality for them

I'm gonna go a little out of left field and say Aaron Marsh. I want Brand New to record with Aaron Marsh.

or worst if you dont like his style haha, so many people complain about his drums.

Brand New just happens to be pretty versatile in the stuff they do, so I think most people are just putting out what if scenarios (as did I) with producers who might coax something new out of them. Fridmann is a good answer because Thursday is roughly an analogous peer so I can see where that'd go already. I still would like something that digs deeper into their influences though (like Albini)

his drums are definitely distinct and a sort of love em or hate em type of thing. i see so many comments on the new baroness songs about how bad everyone thinks the mixing/drums are and im just yo this shit is dope dave did it again

The first time I listened to Common Existence I thought the drums sounded off. Like especially hollow. I think it helps with the atmosphere now though

i will say the snare sound on common existence is terrible

my problem with the drums on common existence is that there's two different snare sounds (neither are good) presumably one being used as a trigger and they switch off and its distracting as hell, i think this happens on last call or resuscitation

that might be what I was thinking of maybe, my ear isn't sharp enough to really detect things beyond "off" and "good", to my tastes, anyway. I am not so bothered by it anymore, but it was a pretty jarring thing at first because the drums always sounded really clear and crisp but still kind of...spacey? to me (is dry the right word?) sound stuff is hard to talk about

actually itd be the opposite of dry, wet, because fridmann does use a lot of space to achieve the sounds he wants. he also overdrives and compresses his drums a lot, on purpose, to make them really, i guess, sizzle. see: lonerism by tame impala or the woods by sleater kinney.

im majoring in audio production and almost done with my degree so i know a lot about this kind of stuff haha

rick rubin's track record when it comes to rock music is shoddy at best. when it comes to rap it's mostly great.
