I hope Flea is still bouncing around slapping the bass shirtless in a skirt when he’s in his 80’s.

I was wondering why AK had been strangely silent in the press over the past 4-5 years and I figured it had to do with the #metoo movment and people unearthing various bits of his book and pressing him on it. This piece from the Guardian confirms my suspicion:

"I say I was thinking more specifically about the Catholic School Girls Rule passage, but before I’ve got a chance to ask whether he has reflected on what he wrote, Kiedis shoots back: “I don’t know what you’re searching for with that one. But it doesn’t seem like any good can come out of discussing that.” Then the line goes dead."

it is wild to me the vastly different reactions to Brand News allegations versus the past known history of bands like RHCP and Fall Out Boy

Brand New's image is built primarily off of universal critical acclaim (yes they had a #1 album in the US but it was a weak release week) while RHCP and Fall Out Boy's image are built off massive commercial success. Economically, Brand New is far more expendable by the industry and ran their own indie label. RHCP and FOB are money-making enterprises for major record labels, two of the biggest rock bands in the world currently. (25.5M and 18.7M monthly listeners on Spotify compared to Brand New's 1.1M). They have way more fans to the point that people disgusted by their actions are a smaller percentage of their audience and a more marginal loss.

i listened today out of morbid curiosity and thought this was almost entirely total garbage but these are the ways might be the most i’ve ever enjoyed a song from them.

Have to imagine the bombshell about Jesse dropping during the loudest point in the #MeToo era is one reason why it hit so hard. The other two were old news from an era where outlets did a piss poor job with their commentary regarding these type of subjects.

agreed with that as well…however it’s also crazy to me that the mere mention of Jesses name sets of a hate post frenzy here far beyond any other artist

Yeah, I think there’s a level of hurt here where there isn’t with others because we put our trust and faith in Jesse thinking that he was a truth teller and someone who saw through the bullshit. It was naive in retrospect but it still hurts regardless.

Meanwhile, Anthony Keidis is from a different generation and has always been someone not to admire outside of his musical abilities, which many find questionable, and surviving despite a rough upbringing.

Also, Brand New was our band and RHCP is just another band. Same goes for most bands/artists that commit crimes.

no band is your band. grow up man.

I should have put “our band” in parenthesis. And what am I growing up for? I’m giving reasons for why people likely are more passionate about Jesse’s crimes than Anthony’s crimes on this website. Jesus Christ. Maybe wake up and decide not to be a dick? Just saying.
