I’m already dreading the discourse around this movie so much lol

i see less comparisons to la la land and more to classic eras of hollywood from modern directors like once upon a time in hollywood coming up

This is really nothing like La La Land based on the script, but it'll probably get the same awards narrative of Hollywood loving movies about Hollywood.

I'd say Wolf of Wall Street with the vibe of Barton Fink, Hail Caesar, and Chaplin (idk I've only seen bits and pieces of the last two).

I’ve noticed this ever since The Artist one best picture. If you make a movie about Hollywood, it will get rewarded. Unless you’re Bowfinger.

Oh yeah, The Artist is the other movie it'll get a ton of comparisons to (just because of the theme of the end of silent films)

Yeah i'm 25 pages in. This is going to be insane. Like it's outdoing the debauchery of Wolf of Wall Street. Margot Robbie is going to be a frontrunner for best actress next year i'm calling it now

and ya'll haven't even reached the point where (I assume) the academy will just stop the movie, give them all the awards, and make a speech about how magical and amazing Hollywood is

well to be fair in the decade since The Artist & Argo, movies about "Hollywood/LA" such as: La La Land, A Star is Born, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Mank, and in some ways even Licorice Pizza - these are all movies with lots of nominations including Best Picture, but will actually win maybe 1-2 of those awards if they are lucky, and in all cases lose best picture

I actually always forget (including in my comment above) that La La Land didn't really win Best Picture.
