are we still lucky to be here? Prestigious

After a few more listens, this definitely doesn't top Cheer, but it's a solid step forward in their discography. One complaint I have thought that's probably an odd one - Pat almost sounds a bit too polished here. He's at his best when he sounds like a stark raving lunatic that sounds a bit shit as a vocalist.

this record is immaculate. patrick has a great ear for melody and his use of lyrical off rhyming makes it even better. probably a top 10 record for me.

Finally listened to this today, really dig it. No issues with the production for me, but then again I appreciate a little bit polished.

i like this a lot but agree the vocal production is weird at times. there's like a weird filter/doubling at points?

If the Drug Church, One Step Closer, Soul Blind, and Lurk tour comes nearby you should definitely go. All bands are awesome live.

I might be in the minority here but I think Hygiene is their best record to date.

According to the latest Axe to Grind patreon podcast, Drug Church recently accepted a tour with a "party band" that Pat described their fans as "cokeheads and landscapers" and talked about how their fans would gel with them. I'm very intrigued.

LOL I wouldn't mind that at all - but "cokeheads and landscapers"? hahahaha maybe "potheads and graphic designers"

Oh FUCK yes - how could I not think of that possibility. Def sounds like a more likely pairing. I'm all in if so.

I mean I don’t actually think it is haha but that’s the first band that came to mind

Hygiene is OK....but it's no Cheer imo. The production is super fussy for no good reason, which is doubly vexing because Cheer sounded wonderful. ("Tawny" was an amazing single tho)

The Tawny EP was a beast. Bliss Out is one of my favorite DC songs. Still love this album, I can see how the production makes it hit different but it’s not enough to bother me as much.

    wanna go for a ryyyde

ngl cheer will probably be a lifelong favorite for me so understandably would be hard for this new one to match it. BUT digging it more i listen to it. favorite so far is athlete on bench.

tbh though i think if they saved the tawny ep material for this record there would be A LOT more debate for cheer v hygiene.

It’s solid. Flies by way too fast, but I feel that way about all Drug Church releases. Athlete on Bench is a current favorite
