Love John being back. Terrible single choice and album opener. Song takes way too long to get going. John's guitar solo Is the best thing that happened to this song.

Oh, cool album cover though. Reminds me of Silverchair.

i did revisit the whole catalog recently though and discovered i loved one hot minute way more than should be allowed

 

New song is just released is ok, but I’m really enjoying poster child.

Honestly I enjoyed this quite a bit on first listen. Enjoyed a lot of the songs here more than any of the singles.

 

Thought this was pretty bad on first listen. Why do they think their albums need to be 75 minutes long?

 

they don't need to be 7 minutes. what I mean is they don't need to exist.

 

Everyone made a big deal about Frusciante coming back, but I think this has fewer good songs than either of the Klinghoffer records.

 

navarro is a more technically gifted guitarist and klingoffer puts together better soundscapes. frusciante is the most overrated guitarist going.

I haven’t listened to this whole thing yet but I’ve been extremely underwhelmed by the songs released so far. Especially since knowing JF is back. It’s almost like he isn’t even there haha.

 

He's definitely all over this album. He gets more moments to shine than I was expecting. There aren't any riffs as memorable as Snow (Hey Oh), Under the Bridge, etc. So, I guess in that regard, it doesn't feel like a massive comeback or anything. But I enjoyed his work on this overall.

 

Yeah agreed. Overall I thought it was a solid comeback, better than the singles would have you think anyway.

 

frusciante arguably more of a songwriter than either klinghoffer or navarro, and every interview with the band suggests songs just flow out of him whenever the band is jamming, so i'm never thinking of him as being objectively the best guitar-player or anything

 

a lot of guitar-centered publications/youtube types are obsessed with him on a pantheon type level

they also think this band is actually good

 

but the extent to which people think hes "better than" or "too god for" the rest of the band is ridiculously overblown lol. the guy who helped write stadium arcadium doesnt get the benefit of the doubt from me.
