  2. This was interesting! Not sure it all came together for me but I think people in here are gonna love it. I think it was mostly effective and had some good kills and funny moments. It's kinda like Rob Zombie directed The Visit lol (no spoilers, just vibes).

"Landslide" scene was tonally bizarre, even if including the song made sense

I posted this in the horror thread already, but there won’t be spoiler tags here.

It was decent overall. Some of the kills are super brutal.

the fact that the one death, Jackson I think his name was, was off screen seemed odd to me. They really leaned into the gore and blood for everyone else. It just stuck out to me, I dunno. Ortega’s face half blown off was disgusting. And the fact she didn’t die right away, oof. That’s rough. That and the old ladies head just completely becoming nonexistent except for the top of her head was major ouchie.

the Landslide scene was pretty random and out of place. I guess it was meant to be a humanizing type moment? To show they aren’t just porn stars, they’re still normal people. You know, before the killing starts. Not sure if it quite landed for me though.

Having Ortega’s character do a porno scene seemed kind of pointless. Like the other two sex scenes went all out. Then this one was super fast with no nudity. Okay, I guess it was done to give a reason for RJ to attempt to leave. But I feel like her doing a scene would have made a bond between her and Maxine and Bobby-Lynne (had to look that up, I feel like I never heard her name). So when Ortega’s character gets freed by Maxine and is like “I hate all of you” I thought it was a little weird. But she was going through a pretty fucked up traumatic experience, so logic and emotion can go out the window. I don’t say all this as a major flaw by any means, just where my head went for a few moments. I guess I would have done something different to have RJ go off on his own, maybe even caused by the other girls/Jackson to further make Ortega’s character not like them and want nothing to do with them. Fuck it, I looked it up, she’s Lorraine.

Jackson’s cock swaying around in silhouette was the funniest moment for me I think.

Lots of great tense scenes, like when Maxine is swimming with the gator.

glad I saw it. Not sure how often I would come back to it though.

Oh, and so did the old people know who Maxine was or was her dad being the pastor on tv inadvertently narrating that last scene just meant for that?

  5. Mostly agree with this. Ortega's arc didn't bother me but I also found Cudi's off-screen death and the "Landslide" scene super odd (moreso the shots of the wife - I think the intention is to make you question if she's as sinister as you suspect, but i don't think it's successful)

  6. Good question. I don't think they did. When the wife says "I know what you've done," she's referencing what she saw in the barn, and it seems to be a reveal (to both us and the televangelist audience) when he shows the picture of Maxine on TV

I mean, Ortega was quiet and then wanted to get fucked by a big dick. I’m not sure that’s an arc, haha but I know what you mean. I don’t know if it bothered me, it just stuck out as different, the same way Jackson’s death did.

Oh god, I like mentally blocked her out of that scene haha I forgot about all the split screen shots.

True, it does seem to point to just the porno scene being all they know about.

I thought perhaps the show or whatever played on a loop and that it wasn’t always new all the time, but would loop various segments.

  9. I think the arc of her being the quiet girl, coming to terms with her desires, and then seemingly regretting her actions to the point of hating the people that convinced her they were okay makes sense. What felt weirder to me was her saying she "felt bad if she hurt RJ" by doing it when he literally tried to talk her out of it a scene earlier lol

This movie reinforces my belief that Ti needs to learn how to edit and pace his shit better but I enjoyed this.

    "I'll chew on a dog!"

This is sitting pretty at 97% with 70 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. BANANAS for a horror film of this magnitude (I assume because I still haven't seen it, but hear it's extremely violent). I love when horror gets proper recognition.

    A couple thoughts for now:

I wonder if it was Kid Cudi's decision to have Jackson killed off screen?

I really thought Lorraine was going to survive up until the second she ran from Maxine. Knew she was a goner right then and there lol. Ortega is so damn good in horror films.

I wish the lighting wasn't so dark during some of the kill scenes and just some scenes in general. Feel like it was hard to see what was going on at times.

Very curious to see how Pearl will turn out. Apparently it will be set in 1918.

I was disappointed that the movie didn’t open with her getting stabbed and dragged across the floor leaving a bloody trail. 2 out of 3 movies this year is enough I guess. Though I need to see The Fallout still, but I don’t think it happens there either.

Ummmm…. I feel very stupid. I only just heard someone say it and had to check IMDB cause I didn’t catch it at all. Mia Goth is both Maxine and Pearl. My mind is blown. How did I miss this?

And there was a trailer for Pearl after the credits? The fuck? I tried googling if there was anything before I left the theater but it just brought up a bunch of X-men stuff. Ugh.

  24. Yeah, I googled it too and saw nothing. I also went to look up who played the old folks and felt silly. Damn.

Not a huge fan of old-age make-up in film from a general standpoint, though. Not that it was necessarily bad here.
