They're basically imagine if you went out clubbing from 10pm-4am on a Saturday and all they played was "insert artist here." None of the ones i have seen do anything different than what a night club does on the weekend. Only thing different is the playlist.

Idk I feel like I'm ok with supporting an independent venue that was just shut down for year finding a way to make a little extra cash by playing Doja Cat's music. Don't see how it's any different than a cover band. These aren't tours, they don't need to be sold out. It's just a way for venues to bring some bodies in and spend money on drinks on a night they don't have something else scheduled. Pretty harmless in my opinion. (And fwiw the Taylor Swift night at Subt was sold out)

  3. What really bugs me is when the advertising makes it look like an actual show for that artist, or a festival lineup. I literally thought the When We Were Young Fest lineup was just an emo night the first time I saw it.

Some of these are tours that involve agents, promoters, etc. Booked the same way a show would be.

  5. Def not my scene, but they make loads of sense to me. Let that crowd fund everything else. I know the events themselves really vary, from touring productions w/ event companies to simple playlists.

With regard to profiting off the artist, I agree that it's basically just the business model of a club or cover band anyway. How often is an artist going to be a theme night draw at a club and also in a financial position to care about the line between consumption and taking advantage?

I sold merch at an album release show Saturday & we had to be out of the venue at 9:45 because of the 1D night after. Kids were lined up 30+minutes early outside while it was snowing sideways... insane. But it keeps an indie venue going so fuck yeah! (And I got home early  )

Just saw another one pop up for a Bad Bunny themed night. these things are spreading like a wildfire lol. I wonder if it's going to be a passing trend but since so many of them are popping up then I'm guessing that they are selling well.

Does anyone know if these public in drublick shows are usually multiple stages? I was thinking maybe it’ll be two. This year will be my first (and most likely) last time going. Lol.

I guess this shit is less expensive to put on than tribute bands but, yeah, seems kinda lame to go into a bar/club that is only playing one artist's music.

They're always one stage. I'm sure it varies from date to date, but music generally starts between 1 and 2:45 depending on how many bands there are. It's always a really fun, full day of music and beer. Haha.

Kinda wish this line-up was coming to MA or anywhere near me, really. It's stacked from top to bottom! (Though most of the dates on these things are.)

If you like the artist how is it lame?

Thank you. I really don’t drink so for me that part isn’t appealing. But I think it’ll be a fun day.

Be Your Own Pet, The Afghan Whigs, Chicano Batman, Ezra Furman, Cautious Clay, and Larkin Poe are pretty dope.

They're massively successful in Europe. They only had two big hits over here in America. Maybe a few more on the rock stations. A ton of people will hear them play "Take Me Out" and leave.

But you said Franz has hits on every album, which is true....in Europe, not America. Sure, they're promoting a greatest hits record, but they're basically gonna play the same setlist they've been doing for years.

    ok lol

  17. none of these Franz Ferdinand opinions seem incompatible to me haha

In the US their debut went platinum, the follow-up gold, and the 2nd & 3rd records both peaked in the top 10. They also haven’t charted a top 100 single here in 17 years.

A tour that tops out at 3k people outdoors on a prime Saturday in NYC seems appropriate.

there's a huge market of legacy bands from the 80s and 90s touring behind their old shit , stands to reason there's one for the early aughts too as old as that may make us feel haha

I wish I didn't have to pay $100+fees to see AOF since they're only playing as part of So What! here, but I guess if it's $56 to see them on their own anyway, it might be worth it. I just hope their sets not totally amended.

  25. Pretty sure the only hit Franz Ferdinand was a part of was the one he took in Sarajevo in 1914
