I keep going back to Pain Free in the Chords, The Better of Me, and Everyone Else Is Just Noise.

Listening for the first time now, currently on Better of Me. The guitar lick in this reminds me so much of Death Cab.

So yeah, this is the best album he's put out in a VERY long time. Loved all of it.
I think my initial favorites are Southbound and Sinking and Pain Free in Three Chords.

Oh, this is definitely one of my favorite Dashboard records out of the recent releases. Hittin' me in all the nostalgic feels too today.

A true return to form, easily the best first listen I’ve had from him since 2006’s Dusk And Summer. It feels like an intentional return to his roots (right down to the photo collage cover of a single image, which is straight up The Places You Have Cone To Fear The Most redux) but unlike The Shade of Poison Trees of the acoustic version of Alter The Ending, he’s lived enough life as an adult that it shines through in the song’s subject matter. Absolutely wonderful effort.

Initial favorites (besides the singles, which are underratedly excellent) are “Southbound and Sinking” and “Sunshine State”. “Sleep In” is a great bit of storytelling and yeah if I had kids “Me and Mine” would beat me up.

This was a really great listen. There were several moments the lyrics struck me so much I had to pause and rewind. Really happy he was able to pull it off.

Alter the Ending and Swiss Army Romance are the only two from DC I can really say I love, but this one could end up on that level.

Wow, Jason, you were not kidding about “Me and Mine”. That did me in. As a father to a little boy (my oldest) and a little girl, jesus that hit me in the exact right spot.

These lines from the final track:

    I have some deep regrets
    Some things you don't forget
    They haunt you for eternity

    Things I could not control
I was too young to know
    I needed to protect myself

    Some people mean you harm
They'll see how hurt you are
And use you to enjoy themselves

But I don't fear that now
I found my own way out
And I will use those lessons well

    Some specificities
    Some changed idеntities
And all the truth that I can tell

Those lines stopped me dead in my tracks and made me say out loud to an empty room, “fuck”. There are certain events in my life that happened to me years ago at the hands of someone who used me and my pain for their own pleasure, and that whole stanza just means so much to me now. Thank you, Chris. My god, the whole thing reminds me so much of what drew me to Dashboard in the first place, but with a lot of heavy wisdom and grace of adulthood in tow. Just so appreciative of this today.

"I fell for you. I mean, of course. I've got this ridiculous notion that you're gonna fall for me." That lyric, and the melody to it, feels so much like something Taylor Swift would write. I mean that in a good way.

Lyrically this is his best collection of songs since AMAMABAS. I might even say it's musically his best since then too.

In fact, I feel like I remember him saying recently how his record labels insisted he write less personal lyrics during the Dusk-Shade-Alter album eras, because they thought it would connect to the audience more.
How wrong they were, glad he went back to his original writing style.

  20. One of my favorite moments, so simply and catchy and the delivery is perfect.

What are they performing on air? He has his full band, so I'm thinking maybe The Better of Me?
