    A) yeah, I get that now. And I’m sayin that’s why he shouldn’t be in the hall lol

    B) but you’re saying a ribeye steak and 5 grains of rice are both luxurious meals lol

    C) Yeah. But the returner, kicker, and punter affect field position by tens of yards on a regular basis, while special teams coverage players affect field position much more sparingly and if we’re talking about tackles / not just downing punts… it’s only by a couple yards usually.

And again, yeah I watch film but I skip the kickoffs cause they’re boring lol sue me, I’m not getting paid to “scout” players that almost never see the field, much more interested in offensive and defensive starters

    A) OH, weird, I thought it was the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Didn't realize it was just the Positions People Find Fun Hall Of Fame

    B) No, I'm saying Hester is one of the best of all time at his position and Slater is one of the best of all time at his position

    C) Idk, Bill Belichick has spent a lifetime telling me every yard is crucial and field position and special teams are what make and break the good and bad teams feels like someone I may want to listen to.

You realize how “special teams are important, even the gunners and even a difference of 2-3 yards”

is a different thing entirely than saying “this gunner should be one of less than 400 players EVER, TOTAL, to be in the hall of fame”

    right?

I have absolutely no problem with Punters making it. I have no problem with kickers making it. These are positions of importance too that impact the team despite whether they're fun to watch or count towards fantasy football.

that’s not math though. That’s not numbers. We can’t just put all these guys in the hall and still have it make sense for an honor that only 362 men have received in nearly 100 years

I first don't agree that a gunner being elite vs. shit is only a 2-3 yard difference, I second think a hall of fame is to highlight the best who have ever played their role in the game.

Because they've been wrong about it before doesn't mean they should continue to be wrong. Punters are people too. The Patriots literally won a Super Bowl more because of their Punter than their Hall of Fame QB or TE lol

on average it’s probably even less. A great gunner *play* can be a difference of 15-20 yards but even the best gunners of all time are only doing THAT a couple times a season. Meanwhile, punters affect field position by 15-20 yards a lot more often - great punters do it like once a game - and sometimes they don’t even need a gunner’s help if they know how to coffin corner

yeah but there definitely are discrepancies by position. Like. Some positions have a harder time getting in - such as WR. Do you really think Slater was a better or more famous player than Torry Holt cause I absolutely don’t

On average their impact is probably even less says the guy who fully ad
I think Matthew Slater and Torry Holt played different positions so comparing them is kinda stupid.

Is there a Longsnapper in the HoF? It's not that we only care about flashy positions it's that his impact on the game is minimal compared to the rest of the guys, and the greatest gunner in NFL history is probably not much better than the average gunner.

Devin Hester basically broke all the NFL records for PR and KR TDs in a single season. If you've got teams thinking about putting the kickoff out of bounds and letting you start on the 40...you're a game changer

But players compete to get into the HoF... you aren't comparing them directly, you're comparing them indirectly.

Right but I’m talking about Torry holt straight up did way more to get in the Hall than Slater haha. Regardless of position Holt was just a far more important player.

the total number of players waiting to get in matters and should factor in to whether a far more sparingly active position should get in

For real @EntryLevelDave , THIS is the kind of special teams impact Slater is up against

I dont think special teamers should be in generally because their impact is on maybe 5% of the plays in a game. The two exceptions are:

Justin Tucker - because even by Kicker standards, he is insane
Devin Hester - because by any PR/KR standard, he's Wayne Gretzky stats level crazy

And everyone else is basically exactly what team Ring of Honors are designed for. Show me a punter who goes 10 years averaging 45+ net on punts and puts it inside the 10 like 1/3rd of the time and I'd add them as well

All I'm saying is I can, and have, talked about the Patriots dynasty without ever mentioning Matthew Slater, who is effectively just a guy that's hung around on a team for awhile.
