I mean, almost any name. Washington Commanders is about the worst option I could have imagined. Hell, the guy I helped push "Monarchs" has a better name than Commanders, and I think Monarchs sucks

But it is very on brand for the WFT to completely fuck up something this easy

Id feel good. His track record is great. Its either gonna work well, or he's gonna flame out spectacularly in 2 years.

If it works, you squeeze the last of what you can out of Thielen/Cook/Cousins, maybe even get lucky that Aaron Rodgers leaves the division, and suddenly youre the Peyton Manning Colts in a dumpster fire division with a cakewalk to 12-4 and a division title.

edit: Its worth remember, his "bad" season that got him fired was 8-8. He's a .700 win percentage coach. You have to add up all the wins in Shanahan's 5 seasons to match Harbaugh's first 3, and even then he comes up a playoff appearance and NFC Championship game short. The list of guys with 3 straight 12-4 type seasons with NFC Champ game or better to show is almost certainly a list of guys who had Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, or Patrick Mahones at QB. He did it with Alex Smith and Colin Kaepernick.

Im still putting him at like 50/50 success rate, but, thats almost certainly better than anyone else the Vikings would hire.

Sort of, but the timeline is the problem.

Jan. 25 (Tue) – Brian Daboll receives second interview. Interview occurs in-person

*Brian Flores receives text messages from Bill Belichick congratulating him on becoming next Giants coach even though Flores has not had his interview yet. Belichick’s text messages were intended for Daboll.*

Jan. 26 (Wed) – Giants DC Patrick Graham interviews. Does not satisfy Rooney Rule since in-house candidate
Jan. 26 (Wed) – Ex-Dolphins HC Brian Flores has dinner with Schoen
Jan. 27 (Thu) – Brian Flores interviews (satisfies Rooney Rule because it is in-person with someone outside organization)
Jan. 27 (Thu) – Dan Quinn announces he is remaining as Cowboys DC
Jan. 28 (Fri) – Leslie Frazier gets second interview, this time in-person, also satisfying Rooney Rule
Jan. 28 (Fri) – Daboll hired as head coach

Its entirely possible Flores was a serious candidate initially, but by the time he actually interviewed they had already made up their mind and it was widely known enough that Bill Belichick knew. Meaning that the interviews of all 3 minority candidates were filler. Which doesnt satisfy the Rooney Rule.

Also, its a little weird that it took them a whole week longer to get to Flores than their first interviews (some of which, I know are playoff related, etc) and then suddenly they interview the two minority candidates on the same day, the day after they've made up their mind.

I know the NFL is just the same (mostly) old white peoples who have known each other forever but I’m kind of baffled that Bill, the coach of a rival team, knew that Daboll was going to be hired by the Giants seemingly… before everyone else including maybe even Daboll himself? Like how would Bill come to know that information?

  14. It wouldn’t surprise me — possible that they even consulted with BB on the best hires before making an offer

I'd be curious which coaches are represented by what agents. That's probably the link

Bill and people within the Giants org are also super tight. He loves them and obviously was a big part of their history.

Bill is galaxy braining this entire thing. He sent those texts intentionally knowing he’d play it off as a mistake to instigate Flores lawsuit just to make life miserable for goodell as payback for deflategate. Kudos to bill for being a god damn mastermind.

I imagine Bill Belichick laying on his stomach on his bed talking on the phone like a teenage girl gossiping with other coaches, and he was dared to text Flores that message.

amazing. I’m calling them this forever, in DC at places with Commies fans. And documenting how many people publicly get pissed at me for it

you’re a damn genius, you know that Victor?

The Venn diagram of people who are upset about you calling them the commies and people who are upset about the name change is a perfect circle.

I really just want to see how many folks who work as government contractors will met down over something so silly. I feel like both the “the original name isn’t a racist name!” Conservatives, and the “capitalism can be fair and good for everybody if we just have enough performative movements” liberals would both hate it.
