I specifically and exclusively and explicitly remember my top two targets for pick 3 in 2014 were Mack and Donald

It was obvious to me they were both generational talents on defense and I don’t think it’s even hindsight to say that. I wanted them more than Evans and OBJ even

Mack and Clowney were my top 2 for the Texans. Mack ahead of Clowney but was very happy with either. Then Carr in R2 or Garoppolo in R2/R3.

Shoulda been Donald #1 though obviously.

Some hindsight and why you want to let leftwich take whoever he wants as his gm

The bucs had Evans and Donald as their top players from where they were picking in that draft, the jaguars should want him to bring quarles

 

Donald had insane production at Pitt for an IDL, one of their all time great players… and then he came to the Combine and fucking destroyed it, arguably still the most athletic display ever for any big man. People were blown away by Ed Oliver recently… Donald was heavier, benched more, ran faster AND jumped higher than Oliver.

The whole argument against him was “he’s undersized” and I did not understand that - you want a low center of gravity! Dude has always been a human bulldozer obviously his lighter 285 pound weight had nothing to do with how stout he was.
