Yeah I see it as a win, maybe a good example of someone learning to trust the science and not just blindly hating it without recourse.

 

Yeah the reason it was a red flag to me when I heard is comments is that “statistics” and the constitution were both big parts of right wing antivax talking points at the time so that’s what I mean by it was a wtf moment. It was just a little more concerning at the time than avoiding the questions. I was pleasantly surprised to learn he did get the vaccine but I still kinda wonder where he gets his information.

 

I'd also like to reiterate that I'm not sure Josh Allen has deep thoughts on anything so if anything the hesitation was just waiting for the right person to be like "hey be a good boy and get this jab" and maybe give him a treat after

Well I’m the grand scheme of things yes I agree but in context we were just talking about young qbs being better people than past qbs and why he got the vaccine matters in that context and if his comments reflected right wing viewpoints I personally would think less of him. I don’t know for sure that they did but it’s awfully close to right wing anti vax talking points and things spouted on joe rogan to need to see statistics and just proclaim the constitution frees you from employer mandates. Just a caution flag from me is all, I don’t know enough about him to make a more definitive statement than that.

Like my angle on it is of course white football players, especially those from conservative rural families are meatheads who think being “tough” means they can “handle” being sick

of course black football players, especially those from struggling poor communities, generally mistrust the government about a lot of things… because of the generational abuse and gaslighting that caused their families to raise them with suspicion as a survival mechanism

Its a pretty specific demographic of people, who were foolhardy enough growing up to take risks with their entire skeletons just for the small chance of going pro. I’m not surprised they aren’t politically nuanced or loquacious, I’m not surprised they don’t instinctively take public Heath crises seriously when they’ve broken ankles and pelvises or whatever the fuck. Doesn’t mean I’m going to support an anti vax player who keeps doubling down, but being realistic, every football player who gets vaccinated and shuts the fuck up about it is a small victory Imo no matter what led them to that decision. They are a perfect public-figure example of the sort of demographic we are still trying to get through to, and for every Cole Beasley who encourages anti vaxxers there’s a Josh Allen who changed his mind and got it that is also influencing those people who support him to reconsider as well.

acknowledging the situation, changing an anti vaxxer’s mind is just as positive at this point & we are losing more ground than we are gaining by virtue signaling, which just pushes the rest of the anti vaxxers to double down more
