because activision doesn’t have any Sony exclusives so people didn’t freak out the same as they will when the next cod is only Xbox

They'll do exactly the same as with Bethesda. They'll fulfil current contracts and obligations, then they're outta there.

You don't spend $69 billion to keep other services attractive.

I said this about Bethesda, and nearly everyone in this thread told me I was wrong lol

I’ve also said numerous times, this whole thing is about far more than selling Xbox consoles for Microsoft. If people go that route, great, but services are their game going forward. Just like they said about Bethesda, their games will be playable on platforms where Game Pass exists. They don’t care if you buy their box as long as they’re getting a monthly subscription fee out of you. They’re trying to force everyone’s hand into putting Game Pass on their platform.

Man I truly cannot imagine the level of pro-corpo, capitalist brain-bleed you'd need to have in order to be happy about this news. Truly staggering what we're seeing online right now in terms of reactions to this.

I mean the way they worded it definitely sounded this way. That he was staying for the merger to finish.

I mean, I'm still not sure how I feel about such a massive deal but I'll say this - the thought of all those amazing studios having freedom to make games outside of COD is very exciting. Raven, High Moon, Treyarch, Infinity Ward all getting the chance to branch out is something I've wanted for YEARS.

No chance all will remain multiplatform and even if some did you can only bet Xbox will have exclusive content. I have to say I have been very much a Sony fan but it's proving hard here when a lot of my favourite games are looking to become Xbox exclusives.

If Sony loses Persona that will probably be it for me.

at this point I wouldn't blame Sony if they wanted to open their wallets. Just to be safe.

I mean, wasn't it only months ago that people were cursing Activision's name and saying they needed to be cleaned out. Again, I'm not supporting this purchase but that seems to be what will happen here to some extent. Clean out the Board/Bobby and give the studios freedom to branch outside of the annual COD churn. There are absolutely some positives to this on the surface.

I personally don't care what the WSJ's sources say, an official Microsoft spokesperson went on the record earlier today when asked specifically about whether Kotick was staying on after the deal. They said he was. That's the official word from Microsoft as of now. Anonymous sources that could be lying just to help Microsoft weather the PR shitstorm of keeping Kotick on should not be trusted. They can legally lie to anyone except their shareholders.

Yup. I agree with plenty of the sentiments being made here about this acquisition, but the people I am happy for here are the developers that have been under Activision. The one thing this new look Xbox have shown with their studios is they’re willing to give them the money time they need to put their best foot forward, as well as the freedom to create the games they’re passionate about. Smaller teams within studios working on different projects like Grounded, Josh Sawyer’s new fame in progress, etc. This has got to feel good for them.

Besides, Microsoft could very easily have made Kotick's immediate resignation a condition of this deal. They could have made him go away now and installed whoever was directly under him as temporary CEO or something like that. The fact that they were willing to leave him on as CEO for another year and a half for no reason is not great in and of itself, even if their plan actually is to oust him once the deal is done.

And yeah let's not forget, when we talk about working conditions that includes the workers' right to unionize. Good Guy Microsoft is going to mercilessly crush that effort. Count on that.

idk, Microsoft gave 343 6 years to do a mid ass Halo. They're probably a fairly good employer.

... if you're hell bent on a silver lining in the shit cloud that is Bobby Kotick essentially doubling his net worth.
