I honestly can't say how vehemently repulsed I am by this deal.

Kotick is staying on after it goes through, a Microsoft spokesperson already confirmed it.

Exactly what I thought...or Sony retaliates and tries to purchase them, making Sony the sports console.

  9. Him leaving is the one good thing that could've come from this and they can't even do that

Sony doesn't have the money to acquire anyone big. And besides these acquisitions are bad no matter who does them.

Sony could probably buy Atlas, maybe Square, but I don’t think they have the money for EA. Sony buying Atlas and Square would be kind of pointless since they almost don’t release any games on Xbox anyways.

There's absolutely no way Sony could compete against a deal like this when it comes to money. Microsoft just spent half of it's cash (they had $137 Billion) on this deal.

It's truly a historic moment for gaming, but I can't think of one reason why it's good.

Given their current strategy, it feels like we will wake up one day and Microsoft has bought Sony/PlayStation.

This is going to get A LOT of people on board for GamePass. Getting all these games day one will be insane.

I personally don’t play the games but they are some of the most popular games on the planet.

This is just so disheartening. Not just for the gaming community, but just to know our country legitimately doesn't give a shit about monopolies and how devoted the human being is to money.

Money makes the world go round, meanwhile Bobby Kotick still will have a job and made something like 400m from this deal alone.

    Fuck this noise.

Even worse, the corporate defenders are already celebrating this as a win. Saw one person call it a "beast move by Microsoft". We're so fucked.

Possible hot take: Ultimately I think short term this sucks, but according to my business-savvy friend, there's a possibility that in the bigger picture depending on what Sony does it could lead to increased platform agnosticism, which theoretically will at some point be more consumer-friendly moving forward if things play out a certain way. Depending on what Sony does and how many more studios MS buys up (and which ones), I'll most likely be saving up for a gaming PC instead of getting another console.

Also, tbph gaming is still mostly a luxury escapist hobby that I don't care about nearly as much as music, film and comics, sooo even if shit does get fucked it's impossible for me to get as upset at this as many folks on the internet considering how much more fucked/unjust things are in real life w/ the pandemic, political climate, climate climate, etc lol

I for one am incredibly bothered by this while also being bothered by all that other stuff. I love this art form and don't want to see it completely dominated by one company. It's just like Disney in the film industry.

Yeah there's still reason to be concerned/upset about MS's acquisitions for sure (I'm definitely not a fan at the moment), just offering a bit of counter-perspective for the sake of interesting discussion :p

100%. Once they have CoD, FIFA, and Madden, they have the majority of the gaming market. Playstation won't really be a thing within 10 years or so after that happens. No one is buying a PS6 for The Last of Us 2: Remastered 8K edition and a handful of first party games that they also put on PC. No studio is gonna wanna go exclusive with Sony when they're going to make 10x more on Xbox where most of the console sales are going to be.

hopefully this deal will put a stop to this shit and kill the chances of Microsoft buying anymore companies and ruining gaming

prolly wont happen but its wishful thinking.

  24. I just woke up after working all night but

I love Microsoft. I think Phil has done a lot of good things for gamers of all kinds (buying up studios aside because I’m not arguing with people in here today)

this is not one of them.
And it’s amplified to be even worse by keeping Kotick on.

And this is coming from an idiot who continues to play World of Warcraft daily.
