To be fair I do think at least this will likely improve that part, Microsoft (as far as I know, I might have missed something) is known for being pretty good in that regard

Sony and Nintendo both have plenty of good exclusives, they don't need to make deals like this because their company culture was about fostering talent and long term studio growth.

As a PC gamer, I recognize that this really doesn't affect me at all, but the scope of this deal terrifies me. It's like Microsoft can't come up with an original franchise so they're just buying up all the existing ones.

 

Nintendo is on good terms with Xbox. They’re not a direct competitor.

This is why I seriously wonder when/if it'll get to a point where consoles become more like smart bluray players and the three major companies will be more like streaming platforms, eschewing console-manufacturing completely. Both Sony and MS are already putting their exclusives on PC and you also have access to nintendo games via emulation. If you're a PC-owner you're already set. If current gen consoles remain hard to find, MS keeps buying third party studios and Sony and MS keep releasing their first party games on PC, it seems absurd for most consumers to not simply buy gaming PCs instead of consoles from here on out.
