i have lots of thoughts but my main one is I can't believe that the "woo" near the end of Thorn is on the actual album. I thought it was just an in the moment live thing on DG haha

On my first listen and this is solid so far. Looking forward to spending more time with it.

Definitely better than Erase Me lol

I was speaking more to the vocals since it sounds too distant on tracks like Thorn.

Not too much of a fan either of that sound but I think Underoath did it well here.

I’ve said it before many times and I’ll say it again: I never will understand the amount of hate Erase Me gets. Is this record better overall? Definitely… for sure.. but was Erase Me so bad that the band completely fell off til Voyeurist came out? No way.

This record is just stronger as a whole without any clunkers like Wake Me. Erase Me still has some of my favorite UØ tracks like On My Teeth, Sink With You, and Hold Your Breath.

Anyways, can’t wait to see these guys next month with ETID and Spiritbox!

It’s split for me, like half the record I quite enjoy and the other half it just passes with no real connection. I understand the hate on Erase Me, but I’ve always liked the bands catchier/pop side so that’s why I tend to enjoy listening to it.

Erase me was bad enough to my ears that I stopped liking them until the singles for this album started dropping, don’t know what to tell ya lol

You've listened to this for so long and so many times, that at this point, your first spin will basically be nostalgia.

just a heads up re: tracking, mine just showed up with no tracking number whatsoever, so perhaps those still waiting on a shipping confirmation might be in the same boat.

Going to buy the indie record exclusive, it’s a golden color.

Yeah I pretty much forgot about this band after Erase Me came out. The album was that bad to me.

Good for the people who like it though!

It's a natural trauma reaction to have though, rejecting the thing that's rejecting/harming you. I'll admit those lyrics didn't connect with me as much as the one's that were more "nuanced" in their criticism of Christian hypocrisy but I do think this record has both (even if it slants one way). There's definitely a time it was the opposite for me though so there's still some connection and reflection on how I've changed. I left the church after being told and shown I wasn't worthy of God's love for being gay and only recently returned this year after being gone for 12 years. So I don't blame people who stick with that mindset because people do things under the guise of Christianity(the church) politically/socially that is the furthest things from the example of Christ. I think this album is a masterpiece for making me reflect like this again on my own faith tbh.

quote from Aaron on Apple Music explaining each song:

    “We’re All Gonna Die”
“Again, the lyrics reference the really conservative religious background we all come from, where people always say, ‘I’m praying for you.’ I’ve been guilty of saying that to people when I was in high school or in my twenties, and it wasn’t true. It’s something you say that’s almost like a pat on the head. This isn’t a knock on anyone’s religion—it’s more like calling out people who are disingenuous. The song is saying that we’re all in this together. We’re all gonna pass away at some point. Don’t say you’re going to pray for me.”
