Most places that do delivery around me use the apps anyway because it's easier than hiring drivers and building out their own platform. I can only think of one place that handles it themselves, and they're close enough to walk to

Also, a $6 delivery fee is abnormally high. I usually see it around $3

I usually tip $10 at a minimum because it isn't the drivers fault if I decide to order something cheap, they're doing the same job regardless

The pizza place I used to work at in my town doesn’t even have a website, doesn’t deliver, and is cash only lol. But they’ve been here for 50 years so they still do pretty well since they’ve got a good reputation

Unless it's pizza, delivery food sucks. Yea, i want to pay way more money for a shittier version of your food. No thanks. I don't know how anyone can justify that the convenience outweighs the higher cost for inferior food.

Order delivery all the time, living downtown it's great and super convenient when I don't want to walk in the rain or don't have access to a car and what I want is far away. Can think of only a handful of times I've had a bad experience. I'll gladly spend extra to get what I want. Definitely not an experience I would call "inferior."

I could see in a downtown environment it'd make sense, but anywhere else/the 'burbs, it doesn't really

I much prefer to pick up but every once in awhile ya gotta do delivery. Like when you’re hungover on a Saturday morning and taking care of a 3 month old puppy. I much prefer to order directly from a restaurant if I can.

I'm full in on delivery services due to laziness/convenience. I use DashPass and I think it's very worth it. I tip the fuck out of the drivers though. 10 bucks minimum from me too.

I think some foods don’t lend themselves well for delivery. Burgers get soggy and cold by the time they arrive to me.

chinese and Indian is perfect for example.

It depends on the food, but for example I've never had a to go burger that wasn't significantly worse in texture and temperature when delivered. Same thing with burritos and subs. I can't stand when bread or tortillas go soggy though so maybe it's a personal thing, but I just think most foods are so much better served directly after preparation, without the time to cool and get soggy during transit. I also live downtown in a city and often want to take advantage of the restaurants I can't walk to, or don't have time to sit at, but I almost always order pick up, and almost always turn up early to pick it up the minute it hits the counter (vs a delivery driver who may not get there on time and then charges me more for something I could do myself but better). I said pizza was fine, but I guess I don't have an issue with Chinese/Indian food (besides the cost), but a lot of food does not hold up well to how it tastes off of a plate at a table seconds after it came off the grill. I don't even like getting food to go if I know I'm not going to get back in a reasonable time to eat it. It's probably all emotional and phycological, but it's like a timer goes off in my head, and If I'm not eating it in what I consider a reasonable time from when it was packed, I get annoyed and can't enjoy it and then just feel I threw my money away. I annoy my wife as I always want to take the time to eat at the place and she often wants to get it home and relax in front of the TV with the food.

When you work from home, being able to order food comes in handy if you’re super busy. I don’t mind paying extra if I’m unable to leave home and want something easy to eat for lunch.
