Don’t really think it’s likely the parents get convicted on the involuntary manslaughter tbh. Like I’m not sure it would even survive probable cause. Maybe they could be hit with some other types of reckless/negligence charges, but at the end of the day I have a hard time seeing a judge find that what they did amounted to being the legal “cause” of the deaths.

I keep going back and forth on this. I have no real knowledge of the gun laws though, especially in that state.

There is a lot of very damning evidence against the parents though. The mother's texts - both the 'LOL don't get caught' and how she texted him immediately "Ethan don't do it" when they heard there was an active shooting. It really looks like they at worst knew he had the gun with him that day, and at best were woefully unconcerned about where the gun was that they knew he had completely free access to while exhibiting all sorts of extremely concerning behaviors showing that he had thoughts about shooting other kids at that school.

I suppose the laws in Michigan could be written in a way that everyone can look at the situation and know that they were grossly irresponsible and neglectful and completely at fault for the shooting but unable to be convicted. I hope that's not the case.

I don’t think it’s a matter of the gun laws, but just a matter of cause. I hate to make the comparison, but imagine if he had instead stabbed someone with a kitchen knife from his house. Yes you can say “he would not have been able to stab them if he didn’t have access to the knife,” but I don’t think that’s sufficient to get someone on involuntary manslaughter. In other words, the argument would go like: even if they were legally negligent, the cause of the death was ultimately the kid and the kid alone.

Civil negligence could be a different matter, idk, but I’m skeptical about manslaughter

This makes sense. Honestly, it's probably a case of wishful thinking on my part. I think I want them to be convicted so I can feel a little better about sending my kids to school.

Probably need to move to a different country.

Never in a million years would I guess that Courtney Love would have anything to do with Elon musk, let alone supposedly have dirt on him

Lol they were just hiding in Detroit and the cops were treating it like they had fled the country. Good thing we keep the police so well-funded in this country, I tell ya.
