I just think there should be space for people in this very unknown and little detailed situation to have arrived at different conclusions. I think it's fair that artists like Phoebe have arrived at their conclusion (given the uncertainty, little information, messy situation and connections to the band), just as I think it's totally fair and valid for many of the users in this forum to believe that the situation is not fully resolved and that they feel uncomfortable with it (given the tone deaf pitchfork puff piece, hearing from another user differently, and a couple bands making subtweets about it). I think it's admirable to want to make sure that the victim is heard and respected and to keep abusers out of the scene. I just disagree with pulling out the shame alarms every time Phoebe retweets or reblogs or whatever a Pinegrove song. At the end of the day, we all want justice and accountability and I think we can all agree on 99% of the cases here.

I don't think anyone is shaming people who don't know about the situation. I am frustrated with Phoebe continuing to use her place of power/influence to promote this band. Is she doing it with the knowledge that the situation is unresolved? I don't know, but I think that artists should do their due diligence before promoting bands on their pages.

People here are another story, especially people who have been engaged in this discussion for like 3 years now.

I think something that doesn’t really get mentioned when PG comes up in here is how from a general public standpoint, aka people not in this thread or otherwise very ~connected~, the band more or less “Did The Work”. They temporarily deplatformed themselves, actively promoted/educated about bystander intervention on future tours as well as donating to charities, and according to the highly publicized P4K piece, made amends with the abused. And all this to counter perhaps the most mishandled, controversial allegation this corner of music has seen probably ever — an allegation of which (sexual coercion), especially 4 years ago, only seems to have dipped its toes into the lexicon because it was deeply normalized for so many years as simply an ~annoying guy trait~, and is largely overshadowed by what people generally consider to be more grotesque allegations on basically a weekly basis

Sorry, I know this isn’t really adding a ton to the conversation. But if we’re gonna be (rightfully) bummed in here when artists we respect continue to put PG on, this should all be acknowledged as a big reason why, opposed to just questioning their commitment to accountability (not necessarily saying that’s what happened here today). This unresolved situation is unquestionably more nuanced than the typical unresolved ones we see too often — it’s not just a “whatever happened with that anyway? meh, oh well” type thing. I don’t think vague rumblings from small scene bands are enough to sway a lot of people that view Pinegrove as a band that genuinely walked the walk

To follow up on my post from before, Gami has responded and swung the accusations back in the other direction.

This Gami situation has gotten very messy. Someone jumped in with a tweet saying Alexis' label owes people thousands of dollars

  14. Can attest to that being true but I’m not sure what it has to do with what’s going on with everything else.

This is me. I don't listen to Pinegrove anymore but as far as last I heard they did "more than most" in terms of actual meaningful contrition/reparation for their misdeeds. Any sort of failure to acknowledge the past / be better / continuing misbehavior has been lost in the conversation.

I would read Ryland’s response to this, along with Alexis’s ex-partner from this time. What Alexis is saying genuinely seems to have very little basis in reality.

I’m not going to say that Ryland is a great person nor that Alexis isn’t going through a lot, but this appears to be a lot of projection by a person that literally everyone who knows them has a bad story about

    punk rock, heck yeah

the response from the band is so weird. "this clearly planned out act of depravity was clearly a surprise to us. our lead singer got carried away and decided to pee on a person's face" you know, sometimes you're really feeling the music and have gotta just do that.
