Josh Ramsay (Marianas Trench) - The Josh Ramsay Show (TBD)

BAM! During the start of the pandemic, Josh Ramsay needed something to do while in isolation. He indulged himself by writing songs in as many different genres as possible. Josh explains, “My goal was to try and do as many genres as possible, so it feels kind of like a variety show. I see it as my ‘calling card’ – not just as a songwriter, but as a producer and arranger.” Aptly titled, The Josh Ramsay Show is a sweeping exploration of musical styles featuring collaborations with a wide range of Canadian singers from across the musical spectrum that rings in at 18 tracks in all. This album is a love letter to music as a whole, never sticking to the same genre twice.

Really excited for this as we wait for a new MT album. Josh and Fefe Dobson on a song? I'm all in!

 

Cautiously optimistic!

 

Is it just me or is this guy like a decade late on a solo career? Marianas Trench seemed poised to blow up around 2011 and then just never did

I think this is all fair. Definitely a bit late if he really wanted to make a go at a solo career, but to me this just seems like a fun idea that blossomed over the pandemic with a bunch of Canadian artists supporting. Side act not the main show.

The cover makes me think of what would happen if Pop 101 was a solo song, if that makes sense. Definitely not fully sold on the styling around this album, but I've been a fan of Josh and the rest of the MT guys for 15 years now - still remember going with two friends when I was in high school to see them play a free show at my local mall in the suburbs of Vancouver. Cautiously optimistic I guess, as @JRGComedy said, but I am willing to give this man the benefit of the doubt as he is unbelievably talented.

Seems like it’ll be a fun little project for Josh to get out some of his ideas before honing in for something related to MT

 

Looks like December 3rd for the lead single. Not a Chad Kroeger fan, but gonna use the key phrase of the day 'cautiously optimistic' again on this one.

 

Today I thought I learned that someone actually remembers the band Default, but what I actually learned is that Dallas Smith is currently a successful country singer.

Now I just wish I hadn't learned this.
