there's no way that's a highly unpopular opinion, right?

The Hangover movies aren't funny. (This might not be "unpopular" on here but I think they made a shit load of money so most people must enjoy them). I love "dumb" movies like Old School and Anchorman etc too but I'm not sure I laughed more than 2 or 3 times at the Hangover.

I don't think any of the hangover movies outside of the original were all that well received by the critics or the public no?

I liked The Hangover but in retrospect it's extremely racist homophobic and misogynistic, Rachael Harris is the prototype for emasculating shrew in that movie

I still laugh at it. Todd Phillips often toes the line between making entertaining films about reprehensible people while maybe admiring them a bit more than he should, but I remember the Hangover fondly even if I have no desire to see it again.

Yeah I remember loving that movie years ago, I had a copy around the house so I plugged it in and was shocked at how offensive it was. I still laughed at some of it but definitely problematic.

No point defending The Hangover in a thread called unpopular opinions, but serious questions to those who find it too offensive.... how do you watch most comedy's and stand ups? I thought Comedy's always made fun/light of serious issues to show how ridiculous they are?

Edit: Totally not trying to sound condescending or anything like that, I know how text can come across.

I love stand-up and comedy, I just find too often people think being offensive or not PC automatically makes something funny which isn't the case

Of course there are good jokes that are offensive, I love George Carlin

I can get that. I loved It's Always Sunny but after a while it seems to only go for over the top/shock humor instead of actual jokes and it got a little old. That may be an unpopular opinion in itself since I know that show is beloved. Enjoyed the first couple seasons or so though.

I get still enjoying the show but it genuienly baffles me when people say the later seasons are just as good.

A close friend once told me that I would love It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I tried two episodes but since then I talk to that friend a lot less than I used to.

I think you'd like it a lot if you stuck with it. two episodes isn't enough time to really get it honestly.

Agreed. Like most shows, once you get to know the characters and running gags it's better.Plus, Danny DeVito doesn't even come in until the last part of the first season right?

yes, and he's an integral part of why the show is so brilliant in the first place.

The first season of IASIP is good in it's own, but it has little in common with what people recognize as the show now.

This feels like you're trying to say that comedy can't be funny unless it's offensive which is absolutely false. I can't think of anything my favorite comedians do right off hand that is offensive in the same way that "paging Dr. ******" is.

Secondly "making fun/light of serious issues" also doesn't have to be offensive. There is a difference in using racist/sexist/homophobic words and actions in an exaggerated form to highlight the rediculousness of it, and just using racist/sexist/homophobic words because they think it's funny.

Course there are people much more educated on this then me so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong please.

Nah, not trying to say that at all. There is a ton of comedy that isn't offensive that is great. But like South Park, I think it being so offensive shows how ridiculous what they are making fun of is.

In regards to the "Paging Doctor" line in Hangover, I think the comedy comes from the timing of the line, not the actual line. He is trying to convince his wife that they are responsible, respectable adults and then that line just blasts through his window.

I kinda miss the tone of the 1st season of Sunny. Like they were equally as terrible of people, but it was, idk, a bit more subtle? Everyone just seems like a caricature now. Granted idk if that show would have gotten 10 seasons or whatever

I miss when Charlie and Frank were the overly crazy ones, and everyone else just had other issues like being super conceded, ect.

Now it seems they are all Charlie level crazy and they keep trying to up it every season. You can only do so much insane lol
