  1. As split as I am on Halloween 2007 (I think it's interesting), I do love Danny Trejo

Having not seen that one I’m assuming he plays Laurie.

It was on today so i gave it another chance and that movie is absolutely unwatchable to me.

  4. I don't want to harp on it because the Zombie debate rages on in these threads, but the dialogue is definitely the toughest aspect of that first one, especially Laurie's family in the beginning. Like I said, I find the "Michael Myers as a human" aspect interesting once it gets going. The second one is the one I find unwatchable.

I always thought I liked it because I do like the childhood/human story, but they drop so many unnecessary homophobic slurs, too much “slasher porn,” and then the jail cell scene.

I guess I had a foggy memory of a lot of this movie.

Do I end tonight with 2018 and a third viewing of this? Not sure.

You know, I don’t think I’ve ever appreciated how awesome the opening credit shots are in Halloween 4.

Also, not only could’ve the EMT avoided a thumb being jammed into to the middle of his forehead, but H4 could’ve been avoided completely if they just strapped down Michael’s damn arms.

This script was possibly the worst next to Zombie’s films. Unfortunate that those extremely well done flashback scenes are attached to this mess.

Yeah, I couldn’t even have fun with it. Just so glaringly bad. I liked 2018, too.

I saw this opening night. Generally liked it. I’m easy to please. But for some reason I was thinking about it today and was thinking how Laurie is just sooo sure Michael is coming to kill her at the hospital and all this but he just wanted to go home?

After all that and it STILL didn’t even end that night

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

yeah. this wants to ignore all the sequels but it's kind of using the mythology of them in that Michael/Laurie is a much much bigger thing than it should be. in the universe this and 2018 inhabit Michael is a dude who killed some people and then got locked up for 40 years, it's so silly that he gets this outsized importance to the whole town

(to say nothing of how this film cribs bits from all the sequels it's saying aren't canon and reuses them but that's a different post lol)

at least Last Night in Soho had a plot arc where new things were actually revealed and learned.

what's worse: no plot or a bad plot handled poorly

In this case, I’d take the bad plot that felt like it was punching up, even if it didn’t quite make it, over the no plot that felt like a useless money grab.

I was reading the chapter in the book Taking Shape about Halloween II and it made me realize how much this has in common with that movie -- increased kill count/gore, the hospital, the emphasis of the Michael/Laurie thing, picking up immediately after it's predecessor. Which is all odd, considering that they very pointedly removed II from canon in 2018

The real question is......What is worse, Halloween Kills or Texas Chainsaw (2013)?

  24. This, at the very least, delivers on the kills even if the continuity of themes from 2018 is absolutely fucked. Doesn't make it a good movie, but it has redeeming moments
