  1. Think I'm going with Neon Demon tonight.

That's disappointing to hear about Antlers. Still want to see it though.

  3. Update: Neon Demon was BONKERS. Very uncomfortable to watch and unsettling at times, visually fascinating (as to be expected from a Refn flick), really strong performances and a great score to boot. Ratchets up the tension and tests the audience's limitations pretty regularly in the second half.

I saw a lot of complaints on Letterboxd about Refn's dialogue, but nothing about the movie is supposed to be realistic. It's an over-stylized, nihilistic, exaggerated portrait of an industry built on abuse and loss of innocence. Nothing feels quite human past the first act, and I think that's the point.

  5. Def worth the watch if you like atmospheric/over-stylized and also fucked up stuff, like his previous films or Cosmatos' stuff.

You may do but I'm sure you'll feel something, haha. That to me is more worthwhile than a boring movie.

Seeing it compared to Cosmatos doesn't give me hope. I find Mandy really boring. I struggle with films that lean on atmosphere over plot.

I understand people love it, it's just not for me

  11. Fwiw, I would say this has atmosphere, but definitely doesn't lean on it haha. Whole lotta shit going on there

The Midnight Hour? I don't think so, I just downloaded it. If you can't find it, let me know, I can hook you up with my Plex.

  20. Also taking recs on low-budget, 80s, Vinegar Syndrome-esque releases (preferably slashers) on Shudder as that's what I'm feeling for the weekend, especially after Blood Beat

Jason Lives is SO fun. I always forget how much I love it.

Also finally get to watch Frank & Zed this weekend!!

  24. Last Night in Soho was so good. Right up there with Malignant and Titane, although not quite as "wild" in the same way. So different from--and leans so much more heavily into horror than--any of Wright's previous films. Great performances all around, Thomasin and Anya were fantastic.
