Is anyone having issues with the N64 online service? I keep seeing people on Twitter saying it plays like shit and has horrible lag and.. it plays perfectly fine for me. Zero issues. Not sure what people are complaining about lol

I justify it with the AC DLC and the fact that my dumbass was paying the monthly $3.99 subscription already because I didn't know they had a cheaper yearly plan lol. But I totally understand.

Most of those people are playing on TVs without the right setup like poor internet or not on Game Mode/with a TV that has poor input lag already that makes this input lag even worse.

A lot of people are deliberately going out of their way to make it look way worse than it is.

Do I think it's flawless? Hell no, it's the most basic, bare bones attempt at emulation and does it mostly fine, but they really shouldn't be charging that much.

This is true and probably one of the reasons Nintendo seemed hesitant to do this. Most people have know idea about any of this but they do notice the problems that are caused by it.

We will get emulated Metroid Prime on Switch before we get Prime 4 lol

But Prime 4 might, you know, not play like a shooter made by a person that has never played a good one

    Prime 3 plays great already.

but also Prime is not a shooter but a very awkward first person adventure.

That's true but it would still be better with standard FPS controls

I mean that's a limit of the console it was released on :)

there is a way to introduce standard FPS control to all three prime games on PC, but it all but trivializes them since that's not what they're balanced towards. (I am currently replaying both 2 and 3 with a more "traditional" control layout) and honestly...

man, I'm gonna get a lot of flack for this, but especially 2 doesn't hold up, and I now fully understand why getting Prime 4 off the ground has been as difficult as it was since you can't just make a sequel with the exact same mechanics, you have to re-think what "Metroid Prime" needs to be mechanically.

I am not playing Prime 1 because I wanna go somewhat fresh into the remake.

I don't mean the Wii one, I meant the other two. The Wii one was fine. The first two ones definitely came out at a time when some other console FPS games, including in the Gamecube, were way closer to what we now call the standard (and they played better because of it).

Prime 1 -- the 2 biggest console shooters that came out in 2002 were TimeSplitters 2 (controls almost exactly like Golden Eye 64) and Nightfall 007 so that's a bit of revisionist history there ;)

As far as Prime 2 is concerned... idk man, the controls are the least of my concern, but given the reception of Prime 1 there was no real incentive to enact any meaningful change regarding the control scheme.

I just want to be able to play Prime 3 because I never did on Wii for some reason

Prime 1 and 3 are amazing. I don’t love the dark world mechanic of 2, made for a lot of backtracking it felt like.

people are describing the structure of Metroid 2 to be Zelda-like but so far it just feels like a buncha mud

You're right, my timeline is a little off, the better ones on Gamecube came after, BUT Halo was 2001

    oh shit lol

still, Metroid Prime was created under horrible conditions (crunch), if they also had to change the controls, especially given how shitty the c-stick on the GameCube was for shooters, it would've been a nightmare I think.
