Oh yeah, comparing Michael Myers, a serial killer, to a handful of males or more in a zombie film (not including the killers). You got me

Did you have another username? There was a poster who got banned (i think) on here that would bring up profanity and violence when critiquing the Zombie films as if those aspects aren't prevalent in the entire genre.

True, I forgot about Brake in 31. He was very good. Not so much in 3FH

No? I’ve been using this one and only account since chorus became a site. Not surprising that other people would share my view on zombie films.

i will say i fully hate the brief rape scene in the mental hospital that zombie spliced into the director's cut of halloween 1 but that's the most egregious example i can think of in the filmography. (theatrical cut of halloween 1 and director's cut of halloween 2 are the only true versions of those films to me)

women and women's suffering are central to his films but his best work (again, lords of salem, which a lot of ppl here hate as much as halloween 2) depicts that suffering with such verisimilitude and with such profound empathy that it is not the angle i'd use to criticize his films

I prefer everything else about the director’s cut except that scene. I actually avoid the cut altogether now - especially since my wife watches horror movies with me most of the time.

I’m not saying people shouldn’t enjoy zombie films, either. I just personally don’t enjoy what happens in his films. It’s too much for me after one viewing. From a filmmaking stand point I will say the devil’s rejects is an okay movie and his most confident film.

Hello, I apologize that my question doesn’t relate to Kills specifically, but I figured the people in this thread would have some insight.

My wife and started watching the franchise for the first time recently, we’ve made it through the first 4 and have decided we just don’t have the time to work are way through the series chronologically before Sunday. Looking for recommendations on 3 or 4 more movies to watch, preferably ones that continue Michael & Laurie’s story from the first 2 films.(if that’s even possible). Thanks!

    I don't think the vibes
The only ones that are canon in the new films are the original 1978 film, then 2018 and Kills

If you want more Laurie (but a different timeline) watch II and H20

The 2018 and Kills only follow the original film in ‘78. If you don’t want to watch many of those films in the franchise I’d suggest watching H2O (which focuses on Laurie and Michael) but it isn’t connected to 2018 and Kills.

Ok cool, I figured it wasn’t likely to have one continuous thread considering all of the different creative minds coming in over the course of 40 years.
Maybe we will just continue down the “Laurie not alive” timeline considering we finished 4 and it has 2 direct sequels.
Curious that 2018 just follows the original and not II considering that took place the same night, interested to see what that’s about. Thanks for the input and clarification!

  14. If you're going to pick two to watch next, I highly recommend 2018 and this film. This one has its issues, but they're much, much better than Halloween 5 and 6 (and I enjoy 6 in a so-bad-it's-good way).

Yeah I haven’t watched 3 From Hell yet and don’t really plan to. I was so hyped for 31 after absolutely adoring Lords of Salem, but was extremely let down by it. Especially with how phenomenal Richard Brake was.

The two Zombie movies are on sale for $5. I'm probably gonna buy em and check em out

  19. Richard Brake is a great character actor. The problem is, in 31, he gets stuck with lines like, "Murder school is in session." It's a huge bummer

They aren't nearly as bad as others will lead you to believe. At the time, they were the most gritty version of Michael Myers and Rob Zombie was trying to do something different. Definitely worth watching, imo

With that said, I'm not a Halloween fanboy by any means

Rewatching the first Zombie movie and holy shit the dialogue is obnoxiously terrible.
